In the first video I got which was Move it by Mark Mason in Blackpool, he says on there that not everyone will use everything he teaches on the video. In fact he says chances are you'll only use a quarter of the stuff taught. However as Michael Ammar says you only need 1 force and 10 outs and people think you did 10 illusions.

I often trawl through things and pick up lots of compilation books of things to see if there's that 'one' thing that's useful.

To answer your question yes you're picky, but then so are we all.

No, I totally agree with you. If I buy 5 DVDs, all with quite a few effects on them, chances are I'll end up using... oooh, 5 tricks from them if I'm lucky. It gets expensive. But I just don't like filler, I will tend to only polish an effect that really impresses me.

DVDs with several really good effects that you will use are actually pretty rare, but I've just bought David Forrest's "Trickery" and I'm pretty hopeful...

Hey Im not alone!!!

I thought to befair,Ishould learn every trick regardless of whether or not I liked it.. and just perform the ones I like.. but know them all

butwho was it that said '' its better to know 5 tricks you like and can do well than to know 150 and perform them average '

I find that as my experience and knowledge grows, I appreciate earlier studied tricks later, and build that way.. I guess

I hope I ve made some sense... 6 stellas in the last 3 hours and I havent had a drink this side of 2006!!

www.youtube.com/brum2redmagic !! Youtube Project started.. early days

Reading: Nothing right now
Studying: loving band redemption
Performing: Speechless, Stand up Monte, Coinvexed,

Yeah, im picky too i guess. I think thats mainly down to your stylw of performing. If you initially read an effect and think that it wont go into your routine, then i save it for another day. I do try and learn them all however, in an attempt to try and learn something new that i can adapt to fit into my style.

At least, thats the plan...

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

I hate it when I read the description of an effect and it sounds wonderful, only to have my heart sinks as I realise the the method involves complex preparation that can't easily be reset.

Or when you read an effect that sounds utterly incredible only to find it's a rewording of something you already know or have!

I got a Marvins magic pack because it came with a really nice see through card case on a stand, only to find when I got it home and opened it none of the things in it used the case(not a big issue as that's not why it was bought) and worse that the case only held bridge sized cards!!!

I'm the same and only perform a very small number of tricks for the books I've got. Although I do all the tricks in a book when reading through, even if they do sound useless. I've found some tricks which sound really naff actually look brilliant when performed with a slight twist.

Never write anything off until you've tried it.

Does anyone find that sometimes the ones you think are incredibly naff people go wild over? That's happened a couple of times to me and afterwards I'm dumbstruck by their reactions.

Yup, I've got some really simple tricks that I only put into my routines as padders and people are still talking about them, even after I finish my biggest climax trick.
