Trick that can be done over the phone

Postby Jerome the French » Feb 8th, '07, 15:48

Hi guys, I am wondering if any of you know any trick that can be done over the phone to someone WITHOUT USING CARDS. I mean it could be a thought of card thing, but the person on the other side of the phone doesn't need to have a pack.

I remember going to a Mark Paul lecture where he mention a trick with astrological signs, but I forgot how it goes... (if some has it and can PM me the thing, that would be fab)

Any other suggestion?

I was thinking about the elephant in Denmark, but if you have something better and involving less calculation (for the other person).

Any recommendation would be great!

Thank you! :D

there are a few simple psychological forces out there you could use. There's a nice one in Karl Fulves Self Working Mentalism where a number is forced through suggestion. I doesn't hit 100% of the time but I find it's usually close enough to be impressive

In T.A. Waters "Mind, Myth and Magick" there is a routine where you can tell what someone's star sign is. This could easily be done over the phone.

I saw a trick in Eddie Burke's catalogue which I haven't bought, but if it is as good as it sounds would be fantastic. Audience members pick a card, number, etc then another audience member calls anyone they know, anywhere in the world, on their own phone and they name the chosen items.
Sounds too good to be true, it's only about a tenner so I may check this one out.

Yeah the pick a number between 1 and 10 kinda thing... It works 85% of the time, but people kinda always comment saying, "yeah most people pick that number"... So I would like something a bit more random, like Lord freddie said about the astrological thingy...

Thanks anyway for your quick response!!

I just did a nice progressive anagram over the phone as part of an interview. You can get some nice software from the Underground Collective and there is a helpful essay by Andy Leviss on On-Line Visions website on how to (and how not to) use progressive anagrams.

Mine worked a treat. Make sure the item list from which they are able to choose makes sense in some way. I used the counties of East Anglia since I was being interviewed on BBC Suffolk, but any list can make sense: holiday destinations, countries, hit singles, football teams, pop stars, the sky is the limit!

You could try some number forces and the vegetable force as well.

The one in Fulves is nice, you force two numbers one between 10 and 50 and one between 50 and 100. Honestly, it's worth looking at, I do it quite often. It does work better with a larger audience as you're more likely to get a hit but still gets very good reactions with just one person.

There's a very similar thread which gives the details of the Marc Paul booklet (which I couldn't remember at the time!) so have a look at http://www.talkmagic.co.uk/ftopic12945.php

Here:

http://www.mreenterprises.co.uk/item8.htm

is the link to Eddie Burke's "Ultimate Telephony". It's £12.
As I said, I don't have it myself so if anyone has tried it out, please let me know.
It sounds incredible.

It sounds too good to be true, though... and when it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I have bought his Mind Stunner map effect and modified for my own purposes. I have been pleased with it. It may well be worth a try.....

Reversal, in Psychological Subtleties by Banachek and various other places under different names. It's also in the BIP Book.

Also have a look at SW Number Magic by Karl Fulves. I particularly like "The Marrakech Game".
