i have seen many nice looking ones, but I'm wondering if there is really a difference though? to justify the price leap? apart from a pretty logo?

the joe porper ones are cut out from a block of metal instead of sheets that are bent around.

You should be able to get Joe porper clips for as little as $30 + shipping and handling.

does that effect the quality of the condition of the cards themselves? or just the durability and age of the guard itself?

both really.

The Joe Porper's Originals website claims that the clips provide even pressure on the whole deck.

As the metal is thicker as stiffer it would definitely last longer.

The porper one's place pressure all over the cards almost forcing them back into shape and holding them there.

The cheaper are more for the protection of the cards and the case.

The Porpers are a different shape and definitely do a better job of flattening the deck.
I wouldn't do without one now.

I have both.. the normal card guard will protect the box.. and it looks pretty neat.. I keep my practice deckin this..

The Porper.. Oh Man!! not trying to plug it .. but.. well yes I am!!

I was going through decks like mad as they wore out in days!! I now have a porper case and the pressure from the construction of the case exerts pressure on the cards keeping them flat and crisp.. When I got mine and I put my 3 week old deck in their.. Ijust left it in my draw for 3 days to see what happened.. they were like new.. in handling.. they just looked a little worn.. makes it more authentic me thinks.. now I have kept my performance deck in the porper for around 5-6 weeks I think maybe a little less.. and the deck is like new..

And every few days I wll put my practice deck in the porper for just one day!!

Put it this way.. I havent got a new deck out since Xmas!!! Theres your answer!!
