Bony fingers

This is concerning coins: When I show an empty hand while doing the back palm, you can see through the little cracks between my fingers. Do any of you have this problem?? How should I fix this? Thanks guys!

I don't do lots of this, but I would imagine that if you keep your hands moving somewhat (much like using a TT, etc) as misdirection, you should be able to keep things form being totally visible....when backpalming a card, the corners of hte card are somewhat visible (even for the most well polished magician) if you leave your hand totally still and allow people to focus heavily on what they are seeing......just a thought!

Hey thanks a bunch bro! I just bought the New Modern coin magic book, so Im trying to get all the concealments down! I wasn't sure if the little cracks between my fingers will ruin it for me...

I have seen this work. I have seen a performer, who is missing either the middle or ring finger of one hand, palm cards and coins in that hand successfully, using misdirection and keeping attention on where the card or coin should be, not where they actually were.

In many cases we are our own worst critics......occasionally you will here it refered to as "magicians guilt"...in most situations you see it way worse than a spectator would.....many don't even know that the concept of backpalming exists!

I know exactly what you mean. I'm such a perfectionist at everything I attempt...

Why don't you jump into the "Intro" section and tell us a bit about yourself, where from, what you do, favourite magic, etc......

You could do what I did... put on weight! (Obviously it was a deliberate and sacrificial decision for the sake of my art... ahem... )

Alternatively you could learn the Tenkai/Goshmann pinch. That's in the book too, personally I find it easier and more effective.

The term for those little cracks is "windows." My fingers are terribly bony also...In fact, a green house doesn't let as much light through it as my fingers to - it is a serious problem for me. So serious, in fact, that I cannot back clip as a result, because my fingers do not come together properly to allow me to grip the coin.

Such is life. We all have differences in our hands. Our hands are our tools, so you learn to get the job done with the tools that you were naturally given. Adapt and overcome.

There is, however, a simple techniqe that will probably work for you:

Let's say that the coin is between your ring and middle finger, in back clip position. Put it there and take a look. Now, gently move your middle finger up and slightly inward, agains your ring finger. The edge of the coin will disappear.

Paul Cummins goes over this techniqe on "Up In Smoke." You might want to look into finding a copy of that DVD - I think that it will help you immensely.

Mike.

i have the problem of very boney fingers too, thanks for the tip michael.
I also find that angling your hand slightly either back or forward helps to minimise the gap showing

I find using a half crown 1948. is good for the back palm its bigger and thicker then the half dollar you will get more grip perteen the two finders and make it easer to straighten your fingers when getting coin form the front finger hold to the back palm with out dropping the coin it will not look hundred percent national. You will just have to find a right coin size for your fingers . but if you still find it hard come back to it. would be easer to learn the Tenkai/Goshmann pinch.

I hope I have helped you in some way
