There are lots and lots of threads on this subject - I recommend that before you learn any stage magic you learn to use the search function.

It's much easier.

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

well i supose if your going to start on a small budget, i asume you havan't just landed a 10 grand a night six week gig.
then you could consider victory cartons as an opener followed by a succession of productions to include jumbo coin's, clocks and silks and close with maybey a snowstorm or an assistant vanish.

even so this is going to set you back an outlay of around a grand before your set design budget, music and stage dressing.

grab mark wilson's complete course. He's got some stage illusions in there that are all very easy to put togther and also alot in the make at home sections would be great for on the stage.

Silks, rope and sponges are also all good for on the stage.

You don't have to do illusions to do stage magic, I earned my living back in college and paid my tuition with doing stage shows with little or no illusions. You just have to have visual effects that can be seen by a large audience. A lot of parlor magic works on stage. As recommended above Mark Wilson's Complete Course in magic has a good number of inexpensive illusions u can use for stage shows. A little imagination and u can make some very good illusions for only a few dollars. Mark made many of the illusions he used on Magic Land of Alakazam TV series out of corrugated board (cardboard). I got an idea from the old Dunningers Complete Encyclopedia of Magic and built a very good levitation illusion I played for years out of cardboard boxes and a little hardware which cost me less than $20. Mark also has a video series of three videos on illusions in which he discusses how to do and make many simple, but inexpensive illusions. His website is http://www.markwilsonmagic.com he will even autograph it for u.
