Postby AceOfClubs » Feb 18th, '07, 23:51

I was viewing Penguin Magic for card tricks, I came across this because I'm very much interested in color changes. Anyone bought this? Heres the link view it. There were some reviews on it but I want to see what you guys think.

Ok, here's a brief review for you - I'm afraid I can't go back and check it out, I watched it at a mates so take this with a pinch of salt:

It's Ok, but do you really need a whole DVD on colour changes? The teaching is good enough although I personally find Jay a bit smug, but everything is clear.

What you have to consider is this: no one who really thinks their change is hot stuff is going to let Jay put it on this DVD and let him reap the benefits... For instance shapeshifter is not (I don't think...) on here, when Ellusionist are flogging it as a product in it's own right. And for the others, eg. Erdnase... well, either read a book, or buy a few card magic DVDs that usually have them thrown in. You can't see many Sankey DVDs without coming across the Erdnase, and many other products have colour changes taught as part of the routine. "The Trickery" by David Forrest has a bonus colour change at the end, but also teaches 2 well-known changes within explanations of the effects. One of the Daniel Garcia Project DVDs teaches the Ego Change - one of the most magical changes I use. Again, you won't find it on here.

Colour changes are fun but are fairly shallow as magic in themselves... they are far better as revelations, in which case you would be better buying several other card magic products and picking up the colour changes naturally as you expand your repertoire. Hope that helps.
