Ben Thorneywork..

Some kid I worked with doing direct sales. He used to show me tricks in the pub .. this was 2004.. Eventually I wore him thin ( with acohol ) and he realised I was actually interested and he showed me 2 card monte.. and the classic force.. which I still havent mastered...

I spent ages half heartedly trying to find places to learn but all I could find were dodgy giveaway sites which really didnt appeal to me..

then I found Ellusionist through a link on ebay.. i bought the beginners pack.. March 2004.. bought up everyhting ''ellusionist'' until around September.. then I found TM... where I was pointed to Royal Road.. then I got Mark Wilsons course.. CUPS led me to Card College.. Michael Ammars Secret of card magic.. encyclopedia of Card tricks.. Bobo's modern coin magic and so on and so on..

CUPS got a hold of me and I spend so much time and money Ive probably learned around 2 years worth of material.. and I have so much more to be getting on with..

I have around 10 years worth of material I would imagine.. from Bobo to Jen Hugard.. from Corinda to Anneman to Banachek.. a large pile of Jay Sankey material.. and everything else CUPS leads me to.

but erm.. yeh .. if it wasnt for Ben Thorneywork I wouldnt be here so thank him!! :P Thanks mate

All together now.....

CUPS has got a hold of my heart
Keeping my senses and my money apart
Magic's taken hold of my life
Spending my cash but please don't tell my Wife,
She'd just tell me off, and put me down
Making me blush and making me frown

In a world that was small, I once lived in a time
That was peace with no trouble at all
But CUPS just came my way
And a feeling unknown grabbed my heart, made me constantly pay
Surfing on NUMS, each and every day

Yeah, CUPS has got a hold of my hand
Taking my magic to a beautiful land
Magic every day and night
Gettin' no sleep, gotta practice that sleight
Changing the Red, changing the Blue
Aces for me and spot cards for you

I’ve got to know if this is the real thing
Post a question on TM and then waiting…Woah, woah, woah, woah, woah, yeah.
For an answer then I’m lost for a lifetime
Each minute spent on here is the right time……..Every hour, yeah, every day yeah….
You PM me and my mind goes astray yeah…
And baby….yeah….and baby….yeah

Yeah, CUPS has got a hold of my hand
Taking my magic to a beautiful land
Magic every day and night
Gettin' no sleep, gotta practice that sleight
Changing the Red, changing the Blue
Aces for me and spot cards for you
Scarlet for me and scarlet for you

That brought a tear to my wallet, Mandrake. Truly magical.

My story is one of an on-off interest in magic. Every few years, I would get bitten by the magic bug, for one reason or another, and buy books or props (or both). The latest period has been going since early 2003, when 'Monkey Magic' and 'Derren Brown: Mind Control' (the series) were on. It inspired me to dig out the stuff that I put down a few years earlier.

I can't actually recall when I first started doing magic, but I must have had a set when I was very small indeed. I don't know if I was given it because I had seen some magic on the TV and loved it, or if I got interested after getting the set.

I used to love telly, so I have a feeling it's the former. Oddly enough, I hardly watch anything now.

I can vaguely recall David Nixon and I used to watch 'Magic Circle', Tommy Cooper, 'Five Magic Minutes' and Paul Daniels. At one time I owned (almost) all the items in the range, including the 'Velvet' ones (which now don't seem that special) and the packet tricks.

What am I saying...I still own them!

My main problem is that I have a huge number of hobbies and interests, which take time and money away from magic (and vice versa). That, incidentally, is the reason for my username.

On the other hand, my other interests stop me from getting too obsessed and can sometimes help with particular effects.

It's great reading all these stories. There are many paths, but the destination is still the same...

Too many damn books and props!

I saw the dynamic coins, and saw they cost a tenner...

"so what if it costs a tenner...think of all the money l could make from it - I can make it back in an hour in 10p's!"

so I spent my life savings (I was 6, and on 50p a week ;) - and with sweets and such things, a tenner was a lot of money :P) and got them...then realised you had to have the money to begin with...

...ah well, I showed everyone, making them turn into 1p's at the end - I loved it.

then gave it up for a few years, that being the only trick I ever performed. Then i got a sven gali pack...marvin's magic I think...

then i found this web site when searching for freebies on the net and realised that the reason I couldn't find any decent magic beyond the "david blaine" stuff was because there were dvds and books teaching them (I was naive - didnt know :P)

I went to covent garden on a school trip to see "woman in black" at the west end, and met Lee, Neil, and James there - I brought my first set of linking rings :D

then, I saw someone on here perform Jumping Gemini, and jokers wild, and crazy man's handcuffs, and saw a link to penguin. I brought just about all of their downloads, (I got run over by a truck...wasnt much else to do but sit around :P) and learnt the basics of sleight of hand magic - the double undercut, a couple of simple colour changes (jokers wild), and then started performing jumping gemini. Since then, Iv just got better and better. Perform weddings, used to do kid's shows, and most of all.......

....the main thanks I have is to this site :D

thanks for all your help guys and girls!

Love

Chris

I was raised during the "street theater explosion" in the mid seventies, aix-en-provence, south of France.

I was 10 years old, the streets was full of people, performers, actors doing their saynettes, freaks, etc...
At this time my mother was part of the "Grand Magic Circus", by Jerôme Savary, as a dancer and actor along with Philippe Caubère.

One night, she brought me to a little circus name "Cirque Bonjour", and what I saw I never forget :
Bubbles solidified in the magician hand,
A metal square suddenly morphed into a circle when touched by a bubble,
Flowers seemed to flow from the magician's hands...

I was hooked

I was 10 years old.
Now I'm 43, never stop studying Magic.
I think of it as a mission.

By performing.

I performed for some key people in my life and then I performed for strangers. I love the rush.

It all started with a novelty magic book i bought at waterstone in manchester because i was bored by UK TV.

I had a book in my house ''The Magic Book'', by Harry Lorayne. I don't even know where it came from, lol. It was most likely my dad's but he says its not his. It was their for years before I picked it up. But ever since I did I've been obsessed with magic.

Since then I've bought these books - RRTCM, 13 steps to mentalism, expert at the card table, expert card technique, encyclopedia of card tricks, J.B Bobo's Modern Coin Magic, DB Tricks of the Mind, Karl Fulves Self Working Mental Miracles, Sponge Ball Magic, and a manual on the swami.
and these videos - Double Take (G.Wilson), RRTCM 5 DVD SET, XB (De'vo), and De'ring.

I think I've made some good choices in buying mainly 'classic' books rather than the usual E stuff.

I'm hoping to turn professional someday 8).

About 14-15 years ago, when David Copperfield was in Germany, I saw his shows and then I decided that I want to do magic too. But as I have lived in a small town in Slovakia I had no chance to learned magic....But now I have the opportunity to realize my dream and so I started learned sleights and other things needed to be a good magician.

And now after about three month practise I can say that the magic is very good and for me it's more that hobby...

Internet advert for the Ellusionist Street Magic DVD got me over to the E site, where I bought Stigmata and then I got hooked. Looking back at it now I'm so glad I didn't buy the Street Magic DVD, it just looks like complete rubbish.
