Is it worth buying a megabertha and wizard pk ring? Can't you do the same effects with both?

No, you can't do the same effects. A Megabertha will do all sorts of things from a fair distance, under a table etc. Despite being called a "PK Ring", the wizard rings are really best used in coin magic I think, also watch stopping. The issue is that the ring usually needs to be so close to something to really affect it that if you are not very careful, suspicion can easily be aroused.

Are they both worth buying? That's up to you...!

M5 safety with other electronic equipment

Postby Yby » Feb 17th, '07, 20:32

According to the Ellusionist site, the M5 should be kept away from computers.

Makes me wonder: How safe is the M5 for electronic items that you and others may carry on your body, such as mobile phones or credit cards, whatever?

If any of you guys use the M5, do you pay extra attention to other electronic items on your body, like keeping your mobile in a remote pocket? Or isn't that any problem at all?

Any hints or first-hand experience would be appreciated. I'm waiting for my M5 to arrive, and I'd prefer not to take a trial and error approach there...

Yby, to give you an example, M5 on yr right wrist, wallet and credit cards in yr left back pocket, mobile phone in your left jacket pocket... you should be fine.

Take the extra care with the power of these things though... around scissors, some tools, some cutlery etc, they can be very "attractive", just common sense and you should be OK.

I would not recommend putting one close to your computer. I dont think you would do any perm damage, you may end up with a "green screen" for a while that necessitates turning your computer off at the switch for a day but no damage that will last.

I wouldn't recommend playing tennis close to your computer either so... just be careful.

SIMPLE COMMON SENSE...

These large neo magnets CAN and WILL do harm to delicate electrical items. But so would spilling a jar of water over them.

My advice is to keep them in a box and keep the box somewhere non-volatile, such as a garage, bottom of wardrobe or under a bed when not in use.

As I've said before, I've had up to 30 of these in-stock in my offices before now, which is full of computers, phones, pda, screens, scanners, cameras etc. and through normal handling no harm has come about.

It's all about being sensible really. For instance, would you hold a blowtorch up to your computer screen? Why?

Thanks guys, that helped me a lot. I'll add playing tennis, waving a blowtorch and using my M5 to my "Top Things Not To Do Near My Computer" list. 8)

Got my M5 yesterday. The warnings say to keep it away from CDs, audio and video tapes, credit cards, and pacemakers (to avoid heart-stopping magic, I suppose), and any other electronic items that are sensitive to... um... magic fields. As a slight contradiction, the accompanying book cheerfully suggests one trick involving a credit card.

From my first experiments, you're right that the device is fairly strong. On the other hand, it is quite heavy and not as easy to conceal as I hoped, but I'll give it some time and more practice before I make any judgement.

I find a good place to hide mine is to simply drop it into my pocket if I'm sitting at a party. Providing your pocket is big enough you can get great reactions by sitting beside people and making objects move about your hand.

Another good place is inside a card box, if you've been using cards then an innocent 'empty' box on the table doesn't look suspicious. Although be careful if your placing the hidden M5 on a table with metal legs.

I set mine onto a table once and it shot to the leg  Luckily everyone thought I'd meant to do it

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Just a thought that came to mind:
Can you make a similar gimmick on an electromagnet principle?
That way you could turn it on an off when ever you like, and even control the strength of it if you can build in a "high/low" switch.
Any one tried making something like that? Any chance it would be as powerful as an M5?

Edit:
I was curious so I did a small Google search and came across this:
http://www.amazing1.com/projects.htm
Scroll a little down and you will find an electro magnet that can (supposedly) lift 700 Pounds (about 320 kg)! But the unit itself only weights 4 pounds (almost 2 kg), and it works on 2 D batteries, and it only costs 80$ (about the price of an M5).
So I wonder if you could make one that has a fraction of it's power, for a fraction of the weight, for a fraction of it's cost, and get yourself an M5 for less money, and with an ON and OFF switch.

FYI:

The NEW IMPROVED Megabertha will be available in two flavours:

Config 1: 4 (yes, 4) 1.5" x 1/4" disc magnets. Powerful as a 2"x2"x1" standard MEGA as a block, or can be separated into 1, 2 or 3 block. Neater.

Config 2: 2 (yes 2!!!) 2"x2"x1/2" block magnets, which can be used together, or as separates. Bear in mind the M5 is a single 2"x2"x1/2" block, and you realise you're getting two M5's for the price of a single Monsterbertha#2

I had so many people who loved the Megabertha, but felt it was too big. So these new configs give all the power, with 'splittable' sizes. And are Soooooooo much fun !

anyone know if i can get a picture of the m5 system???

Postby fire is your friend » Jul 18th, '07, 23:05

Hey dudes,

I was wondering if it is possible to get a picture of the M5 system... I keep hearing rumors bouncing around that the M5 is difficult to conceal. I would prefer not to pay $80 and then find out that I have to strap an item the size of a gamecube to my wrist for it to be of any use. I know some of you have mentioned the size and ellusionist.com has it listed as being something like 2x2(inches) and .5 inches thick but i keep hearing something about putting part of it on your wrist and I am wondering if the 2x2x.5 is just part with a wire running up to the wrist part of the system or do you actually wear the 2x2x.5 box on your wrist somewhere. I would rate myself as an intermediate magician and I am trying to make sure that I'm not buying something that requires and advanced skill level to conceal.

If someone could provide me with some answers that would be craptastic (which is a good thing)
