Hi all,

I found this forum a few weeks ago and thought I'd better stop lurking. I am very new to the world fo magic other than as a spectator and am trying to take my time to make sure I learn the basics before I try to fly - this site has been excellent in helping me avoid CUPS - (I seem to have a natural affinity to this sort of disease).

Having said that, my purchases thus far are:
Modern Coin Magic - Bobo
Royal Road to Card Magic
Complete Introduction to Coin Magic - Ammar
Easy to master card miracles (Vol 1) - Ammar
2 packs of Bicycle cards

A friend gave me the Coin Magic DVD and I found Michael Ammar's style and approach very easy to live with, hence the subsequent purchase of his first card DVD. From a personal point of view, I find combining reading techniques in books with seeing them performed on a DVD to be the best and most useful combination. As with most "X" or "Y" choices, the best solution is usually a mixture of the two.

Am about half way through RRTCM and am getting to grips with most things so far - although much work needed to improve smoothness, at least the basics are there. The only area I have problems with are the flourishes - especially fans and spreads where I don't seem to get them at all even - more practice I guess.

One request - is there a glossary of abbreviations anywhere on the site? You old pros are so familiary with tricks and effects that you often abbreviate their names/descriptions. This tends to leave me floundering around with no real idea of what is going on. A readily available list would help me avoid asking constant idiot questions.

Look forward to working with you all.

Richard

Welcome to TM! Best of luck with all the learning. It's a long old road, but well worth it.

Welcome to TM! I'm new to magic still but Born to Perform Card magic with Oz Pearlman helped me very much along with RRTCM which you already have.

When it comes to Card Magic DVDs, I would have recommended the RRTCM 5DVD-Set with R.P. Wilson. Especially since you've got the book already. I haven't actually got the Oz Pearlman Born To Perform, but from what I've seen, I prefer Wilson's teaching. Maybe it's just a matter of what style I prefer, but I thought I mention it anyway.
