Something fishy...!

Postby Farlsborough » Feb 20th, '07, 01:07

Ok, I've decided that I really want to impress for the evening of magic I'm doing for a housemate, and would like to involve... goldfish. One, or perhaps more.

I've invested in a kozuch gimmick for wine glass productions, but does anyone else have experience of goldfish magic?! Productions, vanishes, whatever... I'll give anything a go, although I'd prefer not to deliberately kill the little blighters :P

I think I remember seeing something with a goldfish production or vanish in Mark Wilson's book, can't remember much about it though.

Please remember that a fish is a living creature. Anthing that causes undue stress or harm (like TT production would) is not only very wrong but also illegal if you're in Britain.

Please don't do anything which involves either prolonged handling as this can cause serious discomfort for the fish or keeping the animal in inappropriate conditions. And once you've bought this fish, she will need looking after. If you're not prepared to do that and are only thinking of getting one for a magic trick, don't!

Yeah, I saw that... think it might be a bit out of my league!

Don't worry Lady of Mystery, I will look after the wee fishies - I know my housemate would quite like some fish, so I'm hoping to do a production that can then be her present.

how's about the lovely "bowling ball from briefcase" production, but with a fish bowl instead? although i know you're a student, hence the possibility you can't afford it. hm, what else? you could do the "water from rolled newspaper" production with a fishy in it, that could be cheaper

Yes I concur with the Lady's statement there is something in Mark Wilsons book on goldfish..

Personally I would take one dead goldfish killed by natural causes and put in a a goldfish bowl. keep one goldfish swimming in a TT full of water.

Act surprised that your goldfish has died then remember some ancient techniqur you heard of once.. and while folding the fish up in a one dollar bill, use you TT to load the live goldfish into one end of the dollar while loading the dead one through the other end into you TT.

Unfold the bill, and show your goldfish is now alive.. then get him to water before he dies too!!

Random bunch of words there put together instantaneously.. pretty much a keystyle trick so Im sorry if I offended anyone with talk of dead fish!!

Alterntively dont use a TT, use a water filled tube in your pocket and unload into your fist and keep it there while the transpo happens..

Interesting idea ID, but how about instead of a dead fish get yourself a model one and then bring it to life with some pinocchio type story about how you've always wanted a real fish.

Still really don't like the idea of keeping the fish in a TT

 yeh that might work!!!

I like the pinocchio theme.. nice!!

To be fair a TT sounds rather bad.. I think just loading into a loosely held fist would be suffice.. should be able to create enough misdirection for the load.. have the fish in a small container full of water in the pocket..

Wow......how good an idea is that for some small stage work or in school classrooms!

I think a TT would be pushing it, but I do have a kozuch gimmick, which is somewhat similar to a TT but bigger, hence it is more suitable for fish production. I do not know how the heck Pete Firman does that...
