Hey guys, just a quick question. Is vulcanizing solution same as rubber cement and can it be used to you-know-what purposes [edited by mods]?

If we are already on the subject of RC.
What is the best material to remove it?
It's said "RC diluter" in the instruction but here in Israel RC isn't popular, and so is it's diluter so I can't find it.
I tried alcohol and acetone (what women use to remove nail polish), and both are not very good...

I just rub it off.

I use cellulose thinner to get rid of RC but it does smell like thinner, quite strong stuff.

In a previous post on this topic, someone recommended surgical spirit to remove RC from the skin, which is what I am assuming you're wanting to remove it from?

I tried this and it worked a treat.

The problem with other solvent based thinners etc. on the skin is that it could cause irritation and a rash.

A couple of good washes with soap and water also did most of the removal fairly well before applying a small amount of the spirit. Surgical spirit should be widely available from a pharmacy and will most probably cost less then the solvent based thinners.

Indeed - and use of surgical spirit, plus the smell, gives the effect that authentic medical feel.

It was our venerable member Silkenone that recommended the use of surgical spirit.

What is surgical spirit different then the 80% alcohol bottle you buy at the pharmacy?
Because I tried it and it didn't give that good result.

The main thing is, that I perform the effect on spectators in real time, so I want to remove as much as I can on stage after I finish.
Right now what I do is to use the minimum amount of RC I can, and after rubbing what I can off (and it's not a lot, because if it looked like I'm putting to much work into it, it would look suspicious), I place a medical pad on it, with 2 blood dots on it from the inside. that way I can hope they won't check it until after the show, and by then it's only them wondering why their skin is peeling on their arm

Ah. The spirit works well for me but I do have to rub pretty hard with a cotton wool pad. You couldn't be so rough on a spec without a) Giving the game away and b) Causing, at best, some annoyance!

Just a query, if any of you knowledgable folks can help.
The rubber cement in tins you can buy from craft shops, is this ok for needle and string based tricks (trying to be ambiguous, but those who know will understand) or does it have to be some kind of special liquid latex stuff?
I have an idea in my head for a new routine which I want to try out practically and think, if it can look skin-like, is the solution.

The answer is yes but you have to experiment to work out the right quantity to apply for your needs.

Cellulose thinners is nasty stuff, I really wouldn't advice using it. It shouldn't be necessary.
