My name is Aleksi and I'm a 19 year old psychology undergrad at the University of York. I was born in Finland, then I lived in Australia for five years, then back to Finland, and now the UK for at least the next five years. I've never really cared much for these introduction things so I'll keep it brief.
I've played guitar for about 13 years, though lately I've been playing only sporadically and I absolutely love music, more than anything else in this universe (except possibly my little sister, but it's close). Some of my favourite bands in no specific order off the top of my head: The Beatles, Iron & Wine, Elliott Smith, Damien Rice, José González, The Decemberists, The Shins, Ryan Adams, Ray LaMontagne, Alexi Murdoch, The Mars Volta, Ambulance LTD, Arcade Fire, Andrew Bird, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, Fionn Regan, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly., John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis, The Mahavishnu Orchestra, Joseph Arthur, Joshua Radin, Kings of Convenience, kitsch, light yellow music, Mansun, Love, Nick Drake, Rob Sharples and last but most certainly not least Sufjan Stevens.
When I was 11 or 12 I learned a card trick from somewhere where you force a card by sliding it off the top of pack while riffling the cards, then putting on a show and having the cards tell you (literally act as if the cards were whispering in your ear) what the card the spectator chose was. With my one trick arsenal I thought I was all that, but I quickly realised that doing the same trick over and over gets very boring so my brief fascination with magic faded rather quickly.
A few months ago I found the Ellusionist site while just randomly surfing on wikipedia and saw some of the tricks they had on sale (Stigmata was the one that really grabbed me), and decided to give it a shot. I bought Stigmata and performed it as soon as I got it in the mail using the same card force I used when I was 11 and got an insane reaction from the person I did it to. From then on I've pretty much been hooked.
Last night I decided to search for 'magic' on google and found this site, thought I'd give it a try and here I am. And this my introduction which was supposed to just be a few lines seems to have stretched into a mini essay. Oh well.
