I'm having incredible problems pivoting back, my inner left corner slips away from the rest and I lose control. I can only assume this is because my grip is wrong. Pity the description in Expert Card Technique is unreadable and the diagram in awful.

I need help! Where do I go next?

Ian Kendall's CD, "Tops, Seconds, and Bottoms" is an EXCELLENT aid to learning the deals. I think you can ask anyone who has his Cds and they will tell you that they are terrific!

I checked the explanation in Expert at the Card Table. It's different to Expert Card Technique, but the principal is the same. I guess I just need to develop my own comfortable grip and controlled action.

I can't really justify buying a resource just for false dealing.

I found using new cards a significant imporvement too.

I'll use this Palmistry Diagram to try and explain my problem.

I've tried this the Hugard way and the Erndase way and I'm still not retaining control, hoever, I have worked out why.

On returning the top card to the deck, the let edge of the card pivots about its centre on the Venus bit of my palm which overhangs the top. This is is prefence to pivoting about its inner left corner. This is most annoying.

If I use more downward pressure, the inner left corner scoots down my life line and I lose control again.

I literaly spent two hours trying to keep control of the card in different grips with no results to speak of. I can't imagine it's this hard.

It sounds like you need to go out more instead of down.
Move the cards a little down then more out. like the bottom left quarter of a circle and not like the top right corner of a circle. Try holding your thumb back a little as well to aid in this movement.

To apply more pressure to the palm, I see. When you say "thumb back" do you mean the thumb itself or the tip to the left?

This is a firmer move than I imagined.

I mean the tip to the left (if dealing out of the left)
Not really for more pressure. It just seems easier for me to get the cards back into place when I push down and out in an arc, then back in the same way, as opposed to out and down in an arc. It seems that with the thumb slightly more to the left it prevents the pivoting more.
