Essential Items?

Postby Carl Buck » Mar 5th, '07, 13:22

Hi! At the minute I'm concentrating on close up bar tricks, using everyday items rather than cards etc. As such I always have my TT, coin unique, hopping coins and perfect pen with me, which together can make for a nice little routine.

Is there anything else I should be having on me at all times that you can recommend?

Any tips appreciated!

Thanks

A piece of rope (about 1 metre) and a couple of rubber bands.

I did 50/50 with beer mats the other day. The bar had them already.

Brain + innovation + resourcefulness = no need to carry an arsenal

Sheesh, this thread is proving that you guys definately need to follow the great 'less is more' setup.

For sure, if you're going to a gig, then pack small, play big. But are you lot HONESTLY telling me you 'never leave the house without xxxxx'?

What about some IT then a quick trip to the toilet for the setup of the whatever trick you may wish to use with it?

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

Items already in place.....toothpicks, match boxes, match books, wine corks, bottle caps, cocktail napkins (great for torn restored) cigarettes, Olives, coins, business cards, salt, salt shakers, pens, pencils, notepads, sugar cubes, sugar packets......the only real item I would suggest carrying for an apparently impromptu pub/bar routine is maybe a TT!

A lot of the things listed in this thread canbe found most places.

Rubber bands + paperclips found in every office.. beer mats at every pub.. napkins at every where.. same for bottle caps and beer bottles ( the effects I was thinking of were bottle through table and coins across with beer caps..

Sure business cards in my pocker and rubber bands on my wrist.. hardly an arsenal..

I know a lot of people stack up to high heaven and walk round like the troll from LOTR but theres no need.

Only things I would carry at all times is a pack of bikes or Tallys in my porper clip.. a few half dollars.. TT.. rubber bands on wrist.. business cards.. a matchbox.. an empty card case ..napkins from the cob shop ( so justified  ) and as of later this week.. 4 'ordinary' washers

I know that sounds like a lot but its not.. not really.. is it Seige??

If you're talking about having all that on you as 'everyday items' then yes, it does seem a bit obsessive!

Personally, I go to the pub/bar with drinking/socialising in mind... if asked to do a trick, I just utilise what's around... but I DO always take a TT, sometimes an IT loop around the wrist.

Usually, in a pub, you can find:
1. Deck of cards
2. Beermats
3. Corks
4. Bottletops
5. Coins
6. Banknotes
7. Paper
8. Pens
9. Chairs
10. Bottles
11. Spectators

etc.
etc.

All I am saying is that sure, if you're out 'jobbing', then filling your pockets sounds great. But if you just going out, then don't go out expecting to perform, just get the moment right and it all seems more impromptu.

Fair enough... thats what I meant though, a lot of things you can find out and about.. the only thing I really prep though is a deck of cards.. and a TT.. and half dollars.. I always pick up napkins.. a habit I had before I started magic.. napkin loaded pockets and I always go to KFC daily just to grab a handful of wipes and walk out again..

I just started 'using' them for a purpose instead of hording them in my pockets
