Elastic IT

Postby Wills » Mar 9th, '07, 13:07

Just wondering if anyone has any views on elastic IT?

I was looking on magicshop.co.uk and NUMS for prices and bundles.

Does anyone know how elastic the stuff actually is and does it break easily (within reason)?

I'm looking into the stuff for a few variations on my card tricks and would like to hear anyone's opinion.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

The type sold at NUMS is very versatile.

Straight from the spool, it's strong, and thin. But, it can be split into finer filaments, giving even more versatility.

It stretches to at least five times it's length, and a 6" loop can hold the weight of a couple of bike decks.

I have some elastic IT called PET 2.0 or something like that which although very thin and very elastic you have to be very careful as it breaks easily. It also take awhile to get used to as it stretches quite a way.
I tend not to use it anymore although I dont do a heck of alot of IT work anyway

The elastic IT from NUMS is very strong, and very elastic. You can split it safely into about 3 strands, any more and it's too weak.
It's clear in colour, so I paint mine with a black marker.
It's good for hummer card in some ways, but if you hold it spinning in your hands you can't get it to rise because of the elasticity. You can throw it about 6 foot away from you though, and I've never had it snap on me.

Edit: I just noticed that you want it to add to your card routine. While the elastic thread is good, It's not good for things such as a haunted deck effect. The thread usually just stretches instead of moving the required items, so maybe a less elastic thread is what you are looking for.

You can do an excellent Haunted Deck with Invisible elastic loops (a la Yigal Mesika)
