Card control to second/third position?

Postby Strep » Mar 10th, '07, 11:23

A little help if you'd be so kind. I'd like to know some good ways of controlling a card from the top (and botton) of the desk to second/third position. I'm currently using an injog shuffle but was wondering if there were any alternate methods, prefereably ones that would look like I'm mearly squaring the deck.

I realise that you may not wish to post specific details in an open forum so would appreciate a PM if you have any suggestions.

You could use a side steal to place one card on top of the deck. Or twice if you want the selected card in third position.

Alternatively the Midnight shift can get any number of cards to the top.

If at a table then a simple riffle shuffle can do the same.

For 2nd/3rd from the top:

Once the card has been selected, square the deck, and catch a little finger break above the bottom two cards. Transfer to thumb break, then swing cut the cards.

Once the card has been replaced onto the left hand packet, replace under the right hand packet and square the deck, holding the break. You now have a break either one or two cards above the selected card. I tend to make a pass, but instead you could double undercut, or any other method of controlling a packet to the top.

Often, I'll use 'Flip, Flop, Plop' by PH. A beautiful deception; I just shift the card I have a break above from the top packet to the bottom packet within a moment of misdirection.

To have the selected card one or two from the bottom, simply use the same method, except catch the break one or two cards from the top of the bottom packet. However, to hide the break, you'll need to stand at a slight angle when the card is replaced.

Didn't quite get that.....

If I swing cut from right hand to left hand and have the card replaced on the left hand packet (now the lower one) how can I get a pinky break under the cards in my right hand (which is now the upper packet and being held in biddle grip)?

Hi,

I find that controling the card to the top a nd then using a riffle shuffle to place it second from top is a clean and easy way to do this. If you want third from top just riffle again ensuring that you let the top two cards fro the controlled side fall before letting the final card from the other side drop on top.

Hope that helps,

James

Gah. You're right. Sorry. I explained it wrong. I meant...

Once the card has been selected, square the deck, and catch a little finger break above the bottom two cards. Transfer to thumb break, then swing cut the cards. My bad.

Make more sense now? (I'll edit my above post too).

you can easily palm off two cards and have the place their card back on top and in motion of squaring the deck place your palmed cards on top :)

I usually use the Marlo Tilt, and occasionally LePaul's Bluff Pass.

Oh, that's a good point. Marlo's Tilt followed by a false shuffle is a wonderful way to do it.

Going for old standbys, try riffling down two cards after you catch a break and doing a double undercut? Or a pass if you feel a bit more confident...

bluff pass is funny, yet instantly yields the result needed. Hard not to laugh when doing that to be honest.
double undercut is the easiest by far.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh
