We are having a gangster theme on Friday at work for Red blows day!! Suddenly everybody wants to know me.. and I have been asked to do 'Gansta Feem' based effects as they pronounce it.

I am thinking along the lines of poker chip based effects.. Fifty Fifty // Sankeys choice // Greed ( Sankeys effect ). Bodyguards by jay Sankey.. ( True Gangsters never stay caught for long !! )

Im trying to think up a routine based on money and the ganster lifestyle ( 50's mafia )


Any thoughts / ideas ??

ganster stuff egh.

surely theres an opening for some lightning handcuff byplay.
coins across with a smuggling theme.
alchemist phantasy, with the gangsters smugling silver and gold right under the nose of the pealers.
hopping halfs same sort of thing, the pealers think they have them but they keep returning.
scotch and soda coin unique, escapes and transpos.

just a few things to get you going.

If you want a gangsta themed routine grab an Ellusionist video on "Street Magic" as they call it for the effects and for patter just memorize a rap CD .

Personally, I'd stick with money effects, card effects, and "pain" effects (i.e. needle through arm) because to me, that is what describes "street life". When it comes to money effects, I think greed is the right way to go, also sh4de, and anything else that you can think of that involves visual, quick, to-the-point money magic. Also some color changes with cards along with some quick, high-impact card tricks (an ACR routine perhaps?). And lastly I'd do some "pain" effects, for instance, disjointed, needle through arm, candle through arm, etc...

For patter, do what you normally do- they might want a gangster theme, but they still want you to be doing magic and not some "gangster punk".

well as for 50 cent..i would not know. i hate the man

but classic gangstar obviously use some poker chips, you could do daniel garcia shade. perhaps monte routines would come in crafty. russian roulette, the cups and nails one, obv not the gun one. cigars perhaps? torn and restored. there's quite alot!

It costs £25 but nymans killer elite pro. You may have seen it but i tell you anyway. You pull out 4 cards with well known gangsters on it {Travis Bickel from Taxi, Mr Blonde from Resovior Dogs, Tony Montana From Scarface and the last one slips my mind} then you pull a poker chip out and say this poker chip belongs to one of these men. They were all in a club the other night and obviously being dangerous men they started shooting each other but one survived the one with the poker chip. Then you ask the spectator which one survived and they have a free choice and say they say tony montana survived you turn the other 3 cards over and on the back it say's shot dead but on the back of the card the spectator said will survive it say's survivor.

It does cost a bit but you wont only use it on friday you will use it every time you do a job the effect is amazing. You can see a video of it on Alakazams website i think its actually on the home page just scroll down and take a look yourself and a perfect gansta routine. Hope this will be of help.

I know some people who know some people if you want to make it more real. Knee capings are £50 ago though and lessons in cockney.

I'm sure you can do something about hanging mobsters, or some form of torture used by gangsters, and work SAW into the equation.

You could create a Smiling Assassin variation - where the spectator picks a "snitch" and then another spectator "plugs" him. The card is then shown to have a bullet hole going right through it.

I use Sankey's "Holy Moly" but I instead of using the metal washers, I drilled holes in casino chips to make it into a gambling theme.....or Daniel Garcias version of greed might work well also

marlo's cigar bottom deal might look nice during a poker demo...

if its sunny, hole in the head or whatever that effect is called...

if you can get some thumbcuffs, they're dead easy to escape from...

a pateo force with a little storyline of a hit going on in a small bar, only one person survived, that with a sealed prediction/or letter saying who survived in the end...

I think under the gangster mantle any poker based card manipulation effect which would show how you could cheat at poker.

Other than that there is the poker chip routine from Eddie Gibson....can't remember whats its called. Have a black centered chip in one hand, white in the other, they exchange places then they both change to checkered centers.

Have you thought of the bullet catch 22 - nice little startler for those guys!! Espescially if they are so into fiddy cent etc.... The other options could be based around 'bling' turning cheap plastic into gold. Misers dream type effect with money appearing from everywhere (a gangsta keeps it hidden from his enemies!) Maggicians insurance - (instead of a gun!)
Smuggling is another option if you can vanish cards and make them appear in 'other' places - ideally on someone else if you wanna frame them!!
You may also want to look at a few pick pocket effects - just to stir trouble!! I'll also have a look through my drawer of unused stuff and have a look - I'm only in Derby so may be able to get some things accross to you (no cash exchange required!) Poker chips etc.......

How about russian roulette or for something less serious, a Bugsy Malone style custard pie production.

Bugsy malone shoot/ no shoot gun - it works for you but not for anyone else!!
Maybe something along the USA prohibition lines too - water to gin and back to water - no one can tell the difference between water and gin at a glance!! Then as a kicker - turn the whole lot into a beer and down in one!! (Powder for this available somewhere I'm sure and if you drink the evidence you end clean!!) If you smoke you could also cap the whole thing by a ciggie appearing at your lips for 'afters'
