keeping the deck safe.

i was wondering what methods different people use to keep their decks of cards from getting ruined when in transit. I take packs of cards to school nearly everyday and i always find that the box ends up getting crushed and ruined after a while. Also some decks dont have 52 cards in the box so the box is prone to crushing really easily.
Does anyone have a special method of keeping their decks free from damage?

Tom, I saw those plastic bike cases and wondered about them.
Are they strong and durable? Do they have the bike standard printing on them or are they plain etc?
Do they have a removable or flip-top lid? Or maybe no lid I guess and if flip-top have you found that it cracks where it folds/bends.
This all depends on if you have even seen them of course.

So many questions m8 I know :) but I would like you opinions as if they are durable and look like proper bike cases I have a small electronic prop I'd like to build into one, I've just got to invent it first :)
Cheers if you can help.

Card guard is a good one, it holds a whole deck nice and tight so you can use it either with or without a normal box and it will stop the whole lot from getting messed up in your pocket. Personally I just carry the deck in my pocket and when the box falls apart I just chuck it and do without, carrying the cards loose.

Are you talking about the normal cardboard ones Tom?
If so they are 50p each, I have a nice pile of them :) Available in red or blue.

Thanks for the info on the plastic ones, they sound like they will do nicely.

That's a great idea.

The only problem is my lack of tools and my cack-handedness.
I can solder but thats it, I am actualy after a metal card holder like that, with all sides, a bottom and no top, a brass one would be lovely.

Damn Tom, thats two things you've made me want that I can't have, lol.

I'm just going to sit here until one knocks on the door and says hi.

Well, Luker21, I just couldn't resist that joke. Not helpful, I know.
A card guard + scotch tape on the card box flap does the job well.
But last not least, new decks from time to time don't cost the world.

Yeah true enough, new decks are cheap but one day at an English school is equal to a year in the trenches these days, lol.

Tom, you have convinced me, you treble begger :) I'll let you know how I get on.

If you want to try making one out of brass sheet, you don't have to solder it - use Araldite or similar decent adhesive and it will stick together until the ends of time. Or possibly a little earlier but you know what I mean!
