Working on a routine

Postby AcrylicAce » Mar 23rd, '07, 18:27

Hey guys, I am working a routine and am looking for a little help.

The basic idea is I go from a short coin routine to having the coin turn into a deck of cards. This is the ID and have them think of a card. This card is found to be reversed in the deck. From there i want to use their card that was reversed and have them sign it and go into an ACR with the final reveal of the card ending up in my wallet.

Now, i just have a few questions.

First, does anyone have any ideas for switching out decks and getting the same card that was reversed without making it look like I obviously got a new deck of cards with a new card.

Second, does anyone recommend and good wallet for the card to wallet effect? I have heard that some of them are really cheaply made... i would like a more quality made one.

Thanks for any help,
AcrylicAce

Did someone just say my name?! :D
If you can palm, or aren't too daunted about learning, definitely get the Real Man's Wallet by Steve Draun. Quality is it's middle name. A search should yield my fairly comprehensive review!

One other thing. Do you think it would be a good idea to have them write a card down on the coin that turns into the deck or does that sort of ruin the ID effect? (because you know what the card is for so long instead of it happending right after you find out what card they choose)

You mean you end the ACR w/ the card in wallet or you go from the ID to the ACR? If you go from the ID to the ACR could you give me any help as far as switching the decks out?

Thanks.

i have a jerry o connell "Card to Wallet" which comes in very handy for this...an erdnase diagonal palm shift from the deck does the trick every time!

So no one has any suggestions for switching out the decks?

I have tried using just a false pass using the decks like they are coins but I am not sure if this is possible or not. It seems there has to be an easier way.

Can anyone point me in a the right direction or give me any ideas?

With a bit of misdirection (like having a friend feign a heart attack nearby*), it should be possible to switch a boxed deck for another one in the pocket. Depending on the amount of people nearby, you might just need an excuse to turn your side towards the specs to switch. Mirror practice and misdirection practice with some close friends ought to do the trick.

*Hey, it might work...

Ok, so misdirection is key here... I was thinking the same thing, just switching the boxed deck out for the other one but I just had one problem. I couldn't think of an excuse for putting the cards back in the pack.

It seems a little unnatural to me to take the deck after the card they chosoe was found to be reversed and then put it in the card box and then take it out again right afterwards. Maybe some sort of patter would help make this more natural? What about pretending to be done with my routine and then go "tell ya what, we will do just one more"... or do you think that takes away from the routine?

I'm just thinking out loud here.

You do the ID and hand out the card for inspection, and while the card is out quickly switch the deck for another (slipping it into your back pocket and pulling out another one shouldn't be too hard, the new deck not being in a box obviously). Take back the card and shuffle it into the deck controlling it to the top or bottom. Say something like "actually lets try this" and palm off the card into your pocket bringing out a sharpie. "let's use your card for this one" and quickly spread through the cards or fan them and remove their selection from the deck. Have them sign it and do your ACR.
