I have my first public appearence. I am performing a table hopping routine. But most of the tricks i know are all card based. I love working with a deck of cards and even use packet tricks. Please can anyone tell me the best thing to do to get abit of variety into my routine
It depends how long untill your gig, but assuming that it's not long enough to learn aything new then you just have to work with what you've got. If you use gimmicked decks you will probably want to alternate between full deck and packet tricks to make the switches easier. Also consider that if you are table hopping your only going to be performing a few tricks per table so there shouldn't be any problem with performing lot's of the same type of effect.
If you're going to use just cards then I would make sure you have a variety in the effects you choose - like for instance don't let everything just be a pick a card trick. You could also run the routines into each other - ie if someone picks a card - find it/change it, whatever - then use the same card in say an ambitious card, card to pocket etc.
I would try and learn some relatively easy to do close up stuff - like crazy man's handcuffs, vanishing cigarette, biting a coin etc.
Hope that helps
just recieved it today but it looks good and you have scope for doing multiplying pips and pip tranformations in addition to the routine suplied.
the cards are addaptable too.
I didn't spot that one (no pun intended!) and I was going to hold back on purchases for a while as well. However, I do have a credit balance with Laurence so I guess that's not the same as actually buying anything - is it? Any chance of a swift mini review - just to be on the safe side?
A routine full of only card effects could get boring, I agree that you could vary styles of card tricks i.e pick a card, ambitious, etc...
But if you've got time i suggest you learn a few quick tricks with elastic bands, sponges, and coins and everyday objects. You can just slot them in between the card tricks and then everyone's happy!!
Would you need something "kid friendly"? Multiplying rabbits are always good. They appeal to children and to adults and one of the joys of sponge tricks (they have many downsides too) is the spectator involvement. The magic happens in the volunteer's hands.
You could work in a bit of that with "Pips-a-Poppin'", but the multiplying rabbits are good fun and it can be picked up very quickly.
You can even buy a big rabbit and have a second, entirely different, surprise finish.
