The MagicCafe's Censorship Rules—you think TM is bad!?!?!?!

Postby seige » Mar 27th, '07, 11:33

Without warning, it seems, the Magic Cafe will censor your posts WITHOUT explanation.

After a recent topic on the Wizard PK Ring DVD on there, I had a rather childish and sprawling 'threatening' chunk of private messages from James, Black's magic.

Anyhooo, my intentions were purely innocent. It seems James likes throwing toys from the pram, it would seem, after talking to a few others in the industry.

Anyway, without warning—notification—explanation, the wording of my post on the Cafe was changed!

Very odd. I'd said nothing offensive, intrusive, deflamatory or otherwise degrading.

So, just a word: next time you think censorship is bad on TM, remember this: Although the US is the 'freedom of speech' capital, it would appear that their forum is intended to stay as biased and clean as THEY want it to. i.e., your opinions count—so long as they are the opinion of the staff.

If you deviate from that, you'll be censored.

Freedom of speech?

Nah.

if he's not banned there, we should ask Reverend Lewis to pop over there...the M.Cafe team would be so busy editing and deleting his comments, they wouldnt have time to edit anyone elses...

meh...i refuse to go to a site or country where they can't spell centre properly...*joke*

goes to show how precious and idiotic some people can be doesnt it...

I took one look inside the "Cafe" and hot-footed out. Not a forum I would wish to be part of.

I'd imagine Lewis was hung/drawn/quartered!

It's such a confusing place anyway... possibly the most daunting of all forums on the net—not just magic.

Trouble is, they attract a lot of lowlife and newbies, whom seem to be able to get away with blue murder... but when I make an objective and intelligent debate, it seems to get censored. Not a lot of sense in it.

All which transpires is that 'truth hurts' perhaps?

It's a bit like going into one of those pubs where the music stops and everyone stares at you. You certainly won't feel welcome there.

Can't wait to hear Craig's thoughts on this site...

What's with the front page of that forum? It's total nonsense.
It took me about a week to decide which section I wanted to be looking in.

Don't mock the Cafe... I've known people go in there, and never return...

Here's one for you... if you make reference to certain individuals on the Cafe (such as myself) the comment will be removed...

The Bunny Hutch hasn't gotten quite that bad yet, but they're working on it.

Yep, my remark was about James Clarke(sp) from Black's Magic. He was basically threatening me (how he gets that idea into his head I do NOT know) because I was challenging the release of Prohibition, and also mentioning that the Prohibition working method wasn't a new one.

Of course, being the defensive little twitch he is, he immediately launched into 'rattle out of pram' mode and began a lengthy 'don't make me angry, you won't like me when I'm angry' nonsense.

He was so riled that he offered to clarify the Prohibition timeline in a yukky little scrap mag called Street Magic, just to prove to the public that he was right, I was wrong.

I ask you—is this a rational action? Nope.

So, when I mention this in the thread which caused him to have a hernia, all text pertaining is deleted from my post—mysteriously.

Censorship of reality sucks, and just proves what an ego driven mudhole the Cafe has become. Shame really, as I was looking forward to seeing the Rev and Craig on there—alas, it would be one thing LOCATING them in the sprawling ooze of garish colour there, and I'd also imagine they've been banned.

Ho hum.

An appearantly unmotivated reaction typically has hidden reasons behind. I haven't entered the forum, but can it be that this James Clark guy has some other motive (or is it motif?) behind his reaction? Maybe the motive might be commercial, loyalty or whatever?

Censorship of opinions is disgusting. As long as the opinions are presented in a way that they aren't just insults that don't add anything to a debate, they should be ok.

Craig, in all seriousness now, I really do think you brought the Bunny's attitude towards you upon yourself. I do, however, agree that the Magic Cafe is a strange and Orwellian place where the past mysteriously changes itself to represent what the present should be. With no integrity to the archive, it's pointless. People make investments based on reviews. If they're edited, well, you have to wonder who they serve.
