my business card...what do you guys think?

Your contact details are FAR MORE IMPORTANT than your company name. Without them, a business card is useless.

OK, in brief:

1: Mad Mike- doesn't sound like a magician, sounds like a kids comedian
2: Underutilisation of space... too many gaps, proportions all wrong
3: Fails the readibility test
4: Garish colours, looks a bit loud
5: Odd little logo dotted right, whilst everything else aligns centrally

I'd put my real name on there too because I feel that it looks more corporate. But that's just my opinion.

I agree with what has been said. We get ours done professionally in work, I'd show you it but for fear of getting a load of random phone calls I won't. The logo and title are nearly the same size as the contact details. Nothing should be too small or it becomes unimportant.

You also need to work out what message you want to send to a potential client. If your a more eccentric magician into obscure magic then you have portrayed this well. If your a more mysterious magician I'd say to tone down the red on the card.

I agree with former opinions. Then you have to have one thing in mind when printing the cards. If you made it in freehand or whatever, the printing company will ask you for pantones, 2, 3 or 4 colour print, and other technical stuff.

Mad Mike sounds as somebody that sells either cars or beds. Wasn't there a sleazy bed salesman in Friends called Mad Mike? That constantly slashed prices?

I don't like the font (or typeface if you'd prefere), it just doesn't look professional to me. More like something that's been thrown together with Paint.

There's too much of a contrast in the colours, the way the red gradient runs from bottom to top just doesn't work for me and the gradient is too harsh. If you want to use a gradient make it softer and a they tend to work better running from left to right as that's the way our eyes read things.

The title is way to promenant, make it smaller and more subtle.

The logo, to me just looks like something that you've pulled out of clip art and doesn't really work with the general theme. I'd personally loose that.

Don't confuse the kid with PMS refs and multiple spot/process colours!

You're right. At the most, if they car about the final result, they will hand you a pantone-fan (or what is it called?) to find the most suitable coulour.

Mikey. Lady of Mystery's got some very good points there. I wouldn't use the gradient. When you have a bunch of cards in your wallet, when you hand them out they will de-colour slightly and scratches are easily seen. And IMHO it doesn't look professional. Skip the clipart-ish graphic.

i've just tried to livin' things up really... i personally don't like black and white boring business cards. i've been given and seen many in my time, and they always seem to end up in one place. the bin. they just don't grab my attention.

p.s if you have any reccomendations for colour schemes I'm all ears...

It should be kept professional while at the same time portray the kind of magic you do.

I forget the font but.. it is a professional looking one , but I did have mine created for me

You can get away from the norm of business cards without being too loud or garish.. if you want to work at kids parties you might get away with loud colours but adults may be put off if they see you as more comedian than magic. Remember, the comedian is just part of the act. You want to be remembered for your magic more than your one-liners!!

Tut tut tut... all this talk of 'fonts'... you guys have been blinded by the computer age!

A FONT is a SPECIFIC WEIGHT, POINT SIZE and STYLE of TYPEFACE.

(soz, but I come from an era just shy of dragons blood and hot metal)

Did you know that antimony was used for the hot metal typesetting process because it's the only metal to expand on cooling?

With thousands upon thousands of fonts, each of them more incorehendible than the next, Im assuming the only ones that look professional are those close to Times New Roman.. thats the only one I ever remembered, that and french script for the love letters I send to my wife

I have the one that looks like it supposed to be.. as in.. eligible.

Start talking of weight and typefaces and you just confuse me!!
