That trick what Derren Brown does

Postby bronz » Mar 30th, '07, 19:46

Ok, some disclaimers.....

I do not wish to be Derren Brown.

I have no desire to present the same effects as Derren Brown in the same way.

I don't want to know the exact method behind the exact effect I'm about to enquire about.

I'm just a curious soul who doesn't know a great deal about mentalism.

Right then, that should stop the usual influx of tellings off that this sort of post tends to generate so on with the question. I recently saw DB's latest public release dvd of the best bits from his telly shows and one effect stuck out as impressive.

Derren went to Oxford University, picked a spectator and sat them down and blindfolded them. Then he opened an envelope and showed the crowd the picture of a tractor that it contained. He asked the spec to think of something, the spec said tractor, the crowd went bananas.

What I want to know is, is this type of effect common in mentalism or something DB created? Apart from pre-show (which apparently didn't happen according to the spec afterwards) I've no idea how such a thing can be achieved and I was rather baffled. Does anyone know where I can learn owt similar? Am I being really dumb? Plz hlp.

That totally fried me too bronz, but then a lot of stuff Mr. Brown performs has that effect. I must admit the more I get into this art the more mentalism appeals to me, I hated it at the start.

bu**er! Thought that might be the case John (if I've followed you correctly) though I was thrown off by some clever editing.

Oh well never mind, if it's good enough for our Derren....
