Ace film, go and see it.
I'm not usually a huge lover of children's films, especially with the CGI cartoon bumf that Hollywood is churning out at the moment (anyone else listen to Mark Kermode? He's right!) but my girly and I went to see something a few weeks ago and saw the advert for The Last Mimzy - we both really wanted to see it after this!
It's a lovely film, principally about the relationship between brother and sister (if you've got children who fight, take them to see this!). But it also has a fantastic if totally weird sci-fi plot (the outro track is some kind of psychedelic pink floyd, and there are several scenes in the film that can only have been thought of whilst on acid).
The last two films I saw at the cinema were 300 and The Illusionist and I can honestly say I enjoyed The Last Mimzy more than both of them. It's adventurous in terms of a children's film because there isn't really a villain, it's about discovery and striving for something rather than a classic good and evil plot - quite New Age in that respect I suppose but if that phrase would normally put you off (it would me!), don't let it.
If you see just one children's film this season, make it "The Last Mimzy"
