For of the love of the bill switch

Postby I.D » Apr 4th, '07, 16:50

I have practiced the bill switch with the TT and performed for myself but today I have performed this for the first time in public at work for a few people.

This gets great reactions, even though I expected good reactions I was quite surprised .. I have got the handling down smooth now so even in front of a mirror I feel like a layperson :D

I always get asked '' Can you change notes to a higher value '' Now I can!!

I just thought Id share as my venture into TT work is paying off.

I am also getting to the stage where I may actually perform a public sponge ball routine too!! :P

These are the two ares Ive been dying to perfect, TT work, bill switches and Sponges.. well 3 areas then

And the bill switch is my new holy grail of magic, along with the torn and restored plot.

Dont you always feel a great sense of acheivement and self worth when you perform a mastered effect for the first time after sweating blood and tears?? Its great isnt it

Nicely done ID!!!!

I love sponges, only recently got into them but they're such fun to perform with and people's reactions are brilliant.

Nice one ID!!

I've just got on like a complete mum there and bought a hundred dollar switch. I couldn't just leave it 'as it was on special offer'.

Can anybody please help me? I'm having terrible problems controlling my streetmagic- I can't walk down a street without turning into a pub.

I really should fix up the house.. paint the walls or buy the dvd? fix the fence or buy a couple of cardgali? get gas/electric or purchase a new block of bikes??

That's the beauty of it though, as the notes are totally different.
I changed a £10 note into a Greek note the other day and they happened to be the same colour. Even though the Greek note was about an inch longer, everyone thought I'd just turned a tenner into another tenner, until I told them it wasn't a tenner any more.

Yeah as long as you have a USB cable for phone to computer. Once you get the clip onto you computer you should be able to upload onto youtube easily enough.

As a slight aside on the comparative sizes of currency notes, last month I spent a very enjoyable week on the island of Jersey and they issue their own banknotes. The sizes are identical to UK notes but are visibly different - the fiver is a rust/purple colour as opposed to the current green/blue of the UK note, the tenner has a similar colour scheme but looks very different and on all the notes the image of HM Queen is nothing like the one we're used to seeing - she doesn't wear a crown for starters!

The patter idea might be saying you've forgotten to get your holiday currency but it doesn't matter as magicians always have their own currency exchange facilities, open 24/7 etc.

Thats pretty class Mandrake, I didn't know that.

Assuming that there isn't many that know this I wonder could it be used well for some tricks. Say like telling a spec watch me change this fiver to a different colour and take the crown of the queen.

It could be a funny trick to show some people but still impressive none the less.

Via Google I found a few sites showing Jersey notes but most are old style/design notes or pre-decimal versions. I could only find one which showed the proper Jersey fiver, the tenner shown was way out of date and totally different to the current one. By the way, the reason HMQ isn't shown wearing a crown on currency notes is that Jersey recognises her as Duke of Normandy, not as Queen.

The coins show the same crowned head as UK ones but the other sides are slightly different. No problems if you wanted to do stuff with gaffed coins, just make sure you show the appropriate sides of the real coins. UK and Jersey notes and coins are in free circulation there so either would be acceptable.
