Postby damien60 » Mar 12th, '07, 23:33

Hi Guys,

Or international magic, 89 Clerkenwell Road.
nearest tube farringdon or chancery lane.

Also covent garden is worth a look, there is a magic stall with a performance area nearby on the side nearest drury lane (left as you come down from covent garden tube, East side, but of most interest is the street performing that goes on down there. Walking down from covent garden tube as James street meets covent garden, there is "magic corner". Usually a few magicians lining up to perform either there or in the square (West side).

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh

..dunno how old you are, but if you're going to a pub, there's one called the cornerstore, table service (for free), nice fresh food, but! it is expensive...

or the lycheum 2 minutes away from that, really nice beer, and attractive ozzie barmaids...samuel smith lager and ales...yeah...

Went to Davenports..bit dark and dingy! Not very impressed..Good stuff on display (after my eyes got used to the darkness). Then went to Magic International.....My dreams came true..very friendly. Martin was a pure gentleman, very helpful. I would recommend a visit there to anyone! Also a wonderful lady was there( i think the owner)..and was in delightful form. Thanks to everyone who recommended both of the above to me.

I hope you didn't spend too much! I always do. I pop in for some bike seconds and come out with an extra 60 quid on my card

Didn't spend too much..Got Coin Unique in Magic International, and some Half Dollars in Davenports. I could have spent a fortune..... left that up to the Wife....Hope to go back in November for The Magic convention.

Davenports still in business?

Postby misterblack » Apr 2nd, '07, 00:13

Anyone know if Davenports has gone under?

I ask because all the catalogue pages of their website are 'suspended' and their email address bounces back as unavailable.

It's too late in the evening to phone.. but I did anyway and there wasnt even an answerphone.

Davenports web presence is sh*t simple as that. They have a domain name but use an AOL email address. I have several email accounts and AOL bounce most of them. They charge for a hard copy of their catalogue, but the next time you are in the store, flick through it and see how much of it is actually in stock.

The shop itself runs pretty smoothly (although old Mrs Davenport can be, what polite people would call, 'to the point'). You'd probably be best off to ring tomorrow or better still try International Magic.

"Old" Mrs Davenport was quite "to the point" even when she was young!

As for the other lady at International Magic I assume this is Teresa Macmillan. I must have known her most of my entire life. I hope she is well. My svengali routine has some roots in her late husband Ron's work and although it is entirely different from what Ron did there are certainly elements that were influenced by him.

Teresa must be as old as Betty now. I wish her very well and if anyone bumps into her please tell her I said so. Her husband gave me a career.

Mind you I wish he bloody hadn't.

I was in Davenports yesterday and they said that the website should be back up and running again soon. They should have a better online catologue though!
