Whats's the difference between Bang on and Kolossal Killer?

Postby TheLondonI » Apr 11th, '07, 14:04

Bang On by Marc Oberon $104.25

Effect

Your spectator merely thinks of any card from a regular 52 card deck. A totally free choice.

But within a split second you are able to remove from your pocket the exact card they were thinking of.

No Equivoque
No Stooges
No Mistakes

Kolossal Killer $17.46

Ask a spectator to name any card! It's that simple, yet the reaction that you will get when you perform this miracle will be shocking. Created by Kenton Knepper, Kolossal Killer is an easy effect that you can carry around with you. After having them name their card, you can easily prove that you have correctly read their mind when you pull out a single card from your (ungaffed) wallet.Watch the spectator gasp in amazement!

I can't see much of a difference, well apart from in the price!

Does anybody have either of these effects?

Kolossal Killer is the same, you have their named card in your wallet.

I have no experience of "Bang On" with KK however you dont definetly produce the exact named card from your wallet. (cant really say to much obviously  )

My apologies, i think the description on Penguin magic is a little misleading though!

I found a performence on youtube which shows it

I was also wary of exposure here as well. Moreover, most people use a KK wallet, which jacks up the price near to the Bang On level.

This does beg a serious question about Bang-On though.

If you consider it totally from the spec's viewpoint is it any better than:
KK
3D Burn
or even the humble ID!

I'm not knocking Marc or Bang-On. I think what he's come up with here is fantastic - and God knows I want to buy it - but that's from my enthusiast view point.

Not trying to be negative, just trying to give all us CUPS sufferers something to ponder on.

All have their strengths and weaknesses and you have your preferences and a basket of resources. This is what the spectator sees:

The performer walks up and says that he has one and only one card in his wallet. He then asks a spectator to name any card. The wallet is removed from the pocket and the card is produced.

Now, ID, Brainwave and others have a similar plot. I have done Brainwave for more than 20 years and it has always gone down well. Bang On builds on this idea and takes it to another level in my view.

If you are truly happy with the alternatives I cannot see a reason to part with the cash.

I've seen some sad sh*t on YouTube but that really does take the biscuit.

The berks begging for a tutorial are no better - don't they realise he just kept shooting for 2 hours until he got lucky with the card he drew? ;)

OK, here's the comparisons, if you really want to get low down...

1. The cost: KK costs approximately 1/7 the price of Bang On

2. The arsenal: KK is more streamlined, BO needs real-estate in your pockets

3. The effect: Exactly the same, spectator merely thinks of a card, magician pulls the card (and that card only) instantly from their wallet

4. Ease of performance: Probably on a par

5. Accuracy: KK is about 70% accuarate, Bang On is 100% accurate

6. Repeating: Both effects reset almost instantly. However, BO's repeat performance plays exactly the same, KKs method would be easier to guess by a spec seing it performed a second time

7. Value for money: KK is great, and so is the accompanying effect. Simple Kenton-like manuscript, and add your own cards & wallet. BO is even better, as you get a LOT of stuff for your money, including cards, plus EVERYTHING needed to pluck a card out of an envelope out of a wallet. It's all provided.

8. Mechanics: Memory work comes into play in both effects, and with KK, that's all you need—card is thought of, you produce it from wallet. With BO, the card is chosen and a nice black envelope is removed from your wallet, which contains the chosen card—both wallet and envelope are shown to be empty afterwards.

9. Examination: Neither of the effects allow for examination. However, there are circumstances in which this is possible.

10. My opinion: I own both, and I must say that I would choose BO over KK for my performances every time. My justification is that BO is 100% accurate with no foreplay, no 'outs', and no half-measures.

11. Packs small, plays big: For those of you who are thinking that BO means you need to have 52 pockets with 52 wallets, you're wrong. You will be SO surprised at how small this packs considering the possible outcomes.

12. Just for the pro? Both effects require performance skills to be fully effective as they can be, moreso with KK I think. The price tag of BO puts it in the professional's repertoire rather than the eager hobbyist—but that's a bonus point, as you wouldn't want every Tommy Wonder, Dick Zimmerman or Harry Blackstone having the secret.

Thanks Seige!

So would you say that making sure that you are always correct with your prediction (i.e with bang on) justifies the price jump.

Say you didn't know how either of the effects worked which on would you side with?

The very expensive one or the one thats cheaper that allows you to spend your money on other stuff.

I've saved up about £150 to spend on effects, and I'm weighing up both options!
