Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

Hey, watch the kid thing. There's a thread somewhere that shows that there are quite a few "kids" on this forum.

The guy who started this thread is probably older than I am.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking

I'm only 20 myself. The "kid" bit was merely a failed attempt at Internet humor...

I have to ask if it's just me or does anyone else think that this film sucks?

There's hardly any magic in it worth mentionning on a magic forum.

I was very dissapointed when I watched this film!

It's not really an optical illusion - it just looks like one!

If you try to watch Smokin' Aces as a normal film, you will find it horrendously lacking in all of the qualities that make fictional movies, to put it simply, good: character development, coherent plot, purpose, etc.

However, if you view Smokin' Aces as a case-study in over-the-topness. You will find that it is, in fact, a great work of art. I stand by that statement, though I know it to sound preposterous. However, there can be no doubt that what Smokin' Aces attempted to do, it succeeded at doing.

Also, I didn't know about the magic, so its presence was exciting to me, rather than disappointing in its brevity.

Okay....sorry about my little outburst there.

Anyways, for those of you wondering, I'm 23.

These are my 3 theories:
1. The card is magnetic and he has a fake magnetic thumb (I tried with one and it works)
2. He has invisible magicians wax on the card
3. He has two invisible magicians string connected to the center of the card. The right hand controls how far it goes and the left hand controls the spinning (when the card starts spinning, is precisely when he jukes his left hand)

Dunno if that other dude was kidding or not, but it's not camera tricks. He learned all the magic tricks performed in the movie.

Since magicians don't tell people how their tricks are done, I'm not going to ask how it's done, but simply what it's called (which is probably the same depending on how you look at it). I have searched Google with over 200 variations of the words/phrases card, spin, smokin' aces card trick, card spin, finger spin, floating card spin, etc...and did not find anything directly related to this trick.

I thought it was a really c*** (not the best) film. Some cocaine addict with a deck of bicycles.... big deal....

All three are wrong. You need nothing for this but fingers that dont have arthritis. And you can learn to do this from a number of places..

Then my next theory (well...not a theory anymore) is his thumb is moist and can stick to the card for a little while at a slight angle. He holds the card as if holding a pencil (thumb in between index and middle) and the middle finger spins the card from it's underside, while the index finger is applying little pressure against the thumb to make the card stick better. He then (while lifting his hands up) spins the card as the above says, and slightly tilts his hands backwards thus making the card not slip. When the card stops, it is covering his thumb, making it look like it really was floating.

hehe I hope that's right.

It is a simple move that requires nothing but practice on the moves....it doesn't involve anything - not wax, not magnets, not saliva, etc - simply a card and a hand...thats it thats all.

I imagine that virtually everyone of the variations you search for will show you roughly the same method.....it isn't really a card trick, it is more of a card flourish. Pick one, buy it, and learn it......that simple! You are looking way to deep at this and aren't willing to listen to what anyone is saying....are sight does not EXPOSE but it does STEER people toward what they need. Virtually all of the previous posts has told you what to look for but you seem very dissinterested in listening.....WHY?

If you would like me to find you a place to learn a card spin - not for free either - I will suggest one for you.....you will be dissappointed to find out that the first few posts in response to your original all tell it the way it is.....you are wasting your time.....take the advice you have been given and do your homework....that simple really

I don't get frustrated easily, and I am sure many members will tell you that I am more than willing to help, guide, suggest, etc....to those that are willing to listen, but you just don't seem to want to listen, so why then do you keep on asking?????/
