That it is a trick...just like a magic trick...maybe it uses psychological forces, maybe it doesn't but either way there will always be a back-up. Just because you can't find a logical explanation doesn't mean there isn't one. I doubt you can find a logical explanation for a lot of magic tricks you've seen but you know there is one.

I have an idea but not completely sure but I can pretty much rule out your three options.

1. He admits to not being a mind reader and he despises people who say they are plus he has a team of magicians working with him which would indicate trickery and not real mind reading.

2. I personally don't believe he uses stooges or he would have been mass exposed by now. I think he uses stooges but not by blatently setting something up however I believe before a show he might ask someone to pick a card out of a batch of 50 with different colours on using a force, then when he comes to them in the audiance he might say think of a colour and he would just have to say the forced colour and the way he words it make it look like he hadn't spoke to them before but I don't think he would blatently stooge like that.

3. I'm pretty sure the tv company or Derren would go to all that trouble and expense for a ticket and the rest on just luck either.

Just my opinions thoe.

I really hate to say this but whatever method he used for the first time I wasn't entertained by Derren Brown.
I enjoyed the league of gentlemen bit and the new york mobile read but half an hour spend on those two and sending a confused guy to Africa?
I hope it gets better as I'm usually quite an avid wathcher of his material. It leaves me feeling sad inside

it is true for me as well actually, i wasn't really interested in the whole putting the guy in a catatonic trance and what have you, i rather prefer to see some bits of mentalism like the phone reading and the league of gentleman but most of the episode was spent on this guy and i wasn't really interested...especially as it reminded me a whole lot of the zombie sequence he did in Trick of the mind

What's worse is that my girlfriend who sat enthralled through the tv showing of ' Something Wicked' shouted "Boring" at the first break and went of the computer for the remainder of the episode.
I could offer no defence for once. I've been drinking striaght rum since

OMG!? 100% of people think its all a set up! And the remaining "everyone else on the forums minus one" haven't voted. What could it all mean?

I like that Derren hasn't done more of the same. He's done 3 series of trick of the mind and his specials plus the shows from way back when he still had hair also. A change isn't a bad thing is it?
I try not to watch Derrens shows from the perspective of someone who performs magic. To me it's all about enjoying the performance and Derren is one of the greatest performers I have ever seen.
OK so there was a huge section of the show devoted to that one guys story. But thats fun isn't it? The fact that, in a sense, he's telling a story I mean. And doesn't it make you thirsty for more?
To me, that's the real magic of Mr Browns performances.

As magicians we should know its a trick for the audience, not for us.

Doesn't really matter to me what methods he uses. As long as it's deceptive then its cool 8)
