The Effect

Fire cards off one after another high into the air. Really far... we're talkin 7,8,9,10 feet. One of Oz's favorite flourishes...

In the instructional video you'll also learn a bonus effect using the long distance spinner.

Cost

$5.95 instant download

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

Meh, a 3 maybe? It's a knack kind of thing so the difficulty will vary greatly from person to person.

Review

This is just a fun little thing where you make a card spring up in to the air. It's a nice way to reveal a card and could be used as a good substitute for Daryl's Hot Shot Cut.

After you get the move down you can get some pretty impressive height too.

Really whether to get this or not depends on whether you'll ever use it. In essence is pretty much useless but it's fun and a nice change of pace. Plus sit in Starbucks doing this and I guarantee heads will turn to watch.

For someone struggling with it Oz recommends using a TT. I don't have one, so I just got a normal rubber glove and used that. Five minutes later I went back to using no glove and found it infinitely easier to do. After just 10-15 minutes total I was pretty comfortable with flinging the cards in the air, now I just need to practice more to get a more consistent action.

Overall

It depends, I just think it's a fun little thing so I'll give it a 8/10.

Do you have to have big hands?

I don't know whether the size of your hands would affect anything. My hands are average and I can do it pretty well, it just takes practice.

Nice review, though I think you're right, it's pretty useless. Unless you get instructions on how to pick all the cards back up again

This is one of those flourishes which does take a little time to get the hang of... The way I initially learnt it was with half a deck... It's easier with less cards. It took a couple of days to build up the strength needed in my thumb - but it's now easy. I do it without thinking.

Also - tip for ya - keep your tumb nails short!

Once you get the basics down... you will be able to do all kinds of stunts.

I have been working with the LDS for a while. I can do things from shooting 6-8 up and catching the all; shooting all 8 before the first one reaches my hand. I can boomarang, around the back, straight out, straight up over 35 feet, both hands, and a few others.

Guess some of the lady magicians here may have to put magic infront of their nails then.....

This trick looks similar to the boomerang card that some poker players use every now and then....

keeping nails short is not always the easiest thing. when i learnt "this" trick i used to bite my nails and found that easy enough, so now i've stopped biting them and have grown some nails and now I'm having to re-learn it since my nails get in the way. ah well. i can just about do it round my back now, thankyou greg!

Hmm doing it around the back does that mean just your hands going behind your back and then doing the LDS?

Or like a boomerang around .. :?

I'm having a dumb moment anyone care to elaborate?

Thank you!

i just put my arm/hand/deck behind my back and do it, then catch it infront of me. at least that's the plan
