Im just really looking for advice from you folks. Ive been doing magic for a couple of years and have a good working knowledge of card magic but id like to develop other areas so i can go out and perform profesionaly. l like the idea of coins and mentalism (cause it seems elegant and requires a bit of skill and panache and i like that).....can anyone point me in the direction of a book/books or dvd etc.......oh and by the way if this is an old topic sorry i did search a bit first before i posted.

Royal Road to Card Magic
Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic

Pretty basic stuff to start out with but should help you expand your knowledge as a magician.

P.S. I see that you're new here so let me give you some adivce on the TM forums. This thread would be more appropriate in the "Support & Tips" forum. It's fine that you made a mistake but next time try to find a more appropriate spot for your thread.

The usual starting point for learning mentalism is Theodore Annemann's "Practical Mental Magic" and Tony Corinda's "Thirteen Steps to Mentalism". They're old and you'll be surprised at the gulf between method and effect, but these books are very complete. Bobo's "Modern Coin Magic" is similarly the starting point for learning coins.

I'd go with what's been said above, Mark Wilson's Complete Course will give you the basics of coin magic and some mentalism basics.

Bobo is a great book for coins, also it might be worth having a look at Karl Fulves Self Working Magic books, his Self Working Mental Magic book has got some brilliant ideas in it.

welcome to the site...always good to have more scots on the board!.. even if you do bear an uncanny resemblance to eddie hitler!

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..

I recommend the 8 volume Tarbell Course In Magic.
It has a bit of everything and is well described and illustrated. It covers cards, coins, rope, sponge balls, TTs, escapology, mentalism...well almost everything really!
It's dated in the way it has been written but a lot of the effects are still used today, in a modified form. Great stuff!
