controlling chosen card

Postby sammy1779 » Apr 17th, '07, 08:18

what methods do people use to control the spectators card to say the top?

i usually use the double undercut but some people are a little suspicious. I use the pass when I'm in front of one person but it never works infront of more.

love to hear other suggestions or methods....

thanks

Overhand shuffle control, Hindu shuffle control, it just depends how you have had them replace the card in the deck.

Infront of more people angle your body right and use the spread pass. Theres also Greg Wilsons backstage pass which i use to get the card to the bottom then just overhand to top.

A shuffle, probably overhand or a pass.

I invariably use a little help from my friends kelly, or ovette.
Then a simple cut should shift it to top.

If you don't know who I mean by this, you may not be ready to.
It should not be overused, however.

not a fan of sigs, so I won't bother adding o..... oh

I double undercut followed by a false cut such as a trinary, illogical or if I'm feeling fancy a butterfly cut

I usually use the overhand shuffle, a couple of cuts, or the pass if conditions are right.

Thanks alot for all those replies - i guess i underestimate the overhand shuffle!!! Do you start the shuffle, stop and then get people to replace their card?

Royal Road to Card Magic or Card College or any good card magic book will give you all the answers you need!

But I usually use the pass, or double undercut or just swivel any cut really. Depends on how I'm feeling at that time :D

I know that everyone has their own views on this but I firmly believe that you should make all your moves look simple. If you shuffle cards like your spectators do it will raise less suspicion than fancy finger flinging moves.

To answer your question, mostly, having had a card selected I dribble about half the deck into my other hand and extend it for return of the card. If you curl your fingers slightly round the cards you will prevent people trying to push the card somewhere into them and they will settle for placing it on top. I then replace the rest of the deck on the selected card and hold a break. At this point I start dialogue with the spectator and cut the card to the top. I then do a couple of false overhand shuffles.

In 17yrs I've only ever had one person say that their card was on top, so I did a DL, and got an appology.
