card force

Postby Beardy » Mar 10th, '07, 23:25

hey guys, tis moi again.

just a quick question for ye. im wondering if any of you guys have a mental card force that you use all the time? that works a vast majority of the time? I am not a mentalist, not by far, but I am wondering if there is a place in which an easy (to a degree) mental force is produced? One that would work when on stage preferably, and (if such a thing exists) one that doesnt require 57.8 years in the field of mentalism.

im not sure if one even exists, but I thought i may as well ask. as the saying goes.....dont ask, and dont get!

Love

Chris

Devil's Picturebook by Derren Brown has several. Pure Effect has the same ones, but in DP, you get to see them in action. Personally, I think Invisible Deal (which isn't a force) is one of the most interesting effects around. Your request was a bit ambiguous, but DP has some good forces, even if they don't fit your requirements.

Think of a number between 1 and 10.....make it a playing card.....a red one!
You've got an above average chance of forcing either 7D/7H and with a bit of verbal ambiguity and watching for signs you could narrow it down to the corrent card.

The audience will soon forget that instead of giving them a choice of 52 cards you actually only gave them a choice of 20 and leaning heavily towards a 7 or 3.

Mods: I'm not aware of a specific person who uses this technique to mentally force a card (I believe I've just made it up, or if not, at least have just had some original thought - which makes a rather pleasant change for me:) ) but please feel free to remove the post if you think it's revealing somebody elses work.

I don't own it, but I heard that Psychological Subtleties might have some mental forces.

I do a good 3 of diamonds--- i think it came from a DB reading or something-- i don't quite remember...
but essentially you have them imagine a movie screen-- and you put your hands like a director would make a "screen" in front of you-- but make your fingers cross and your thumbs point down to make a diamond shape between your fingers and your thumb.... if that makes sense

you say: imagine it as vivid and bright as you can ..... <--which pretty much narrows it down to a red card...

then you mention the "spots" running down the CENTER of the card--- i say: the little *then make 3 popping noises with my mouth while pointing at them in the air...*

and i say "imagine the number low.... down low in the corner of the card.... and up at the top..." -- and i draw 3's (backwards) in the air...

that's it. works VERY often.

That's almost direct exposure of Derren's force. I recommend you edit it.

...which he demonstrates very casually and openly in his TOTM series for the entire nation to see. I don't see it as a big deal.

Im not exactly sure what type of force your are looking for. Do you want to force a card on someone or something else?

If a card then I think David Williamson has a great one in magic farm. He said that it works about 85% of the time and when it doesn't work he has a quick backup that makes it look like it worked.

It really depends on the context you are performing this force though. For instance, in this one you have to take the card out of the deck as a prediction and then have them tell you the name of the card before you show them it.

Again, if you were a little more specific with the context in which you are applying the force I think people would be able to help more.

One by Daniel Madison has two psychological forces (4 of clubs and K of spades IIRC) that he says work 80% of the time.
