Just by way of introduction

Hi

I thought I better introduce my self and say hi to the comunity here as I've posted a couple of times before taking this important step.

I've always had a passing interest in Magic from being a young lad (some might say I'm still young) but bar the odd self working trick a few bits taught by the old man I was stuck on how to improve. No magic shops near to where i grew up, no money to buy anything and no friends into the hobby. Anyway life interveened for several years, living in Singapore, uni, sports and more recenlty work, before I moved into a new flat and right opposite someone else did the same who has been practicing for 20 + years who slowly reintroduced me.

They were careful to guide me slowly and not let me get too far ahead of my self starting with the very basics, prompting me to get Oz - Born to Perform to start with. Testing my knowledge before buying me Royal Road to card Magic the book and treating me to Greg Wilsons Pyro Technica Pasteboards as a sign of things to come - obviously at that stage it was way beyond on my capabilities and some of it still is to honest.

Even though I progressed on to buying my own tricks (can be a damn expensive hobby this, damn that disposable income) these early steps have affected, for the better I might add, how I like to learn today. I prefer to spend hours and hours learning just one move or one trick before testing it on someone. I don't just pick up a trick and then drop it as too hard, I persvere, I don't half *rse a trick and then show some one. I'm still at the beginning of journey into the magical world and loving every minute.

I don't have as much free time as I'd like to do magic I mainly prefer card stuff with a borrowed deck or none gaffed and impromptu magic. I have the odd great packet effect such as queens out of control, twisted sisters and presto printo. I'm currently learning flourishes using the Dan and Dave DVD.

I've also rowed, until very recently, to quite a high level. I'm now in training hoping to compete a triathlon within 18 months so doing a fair bit of swimming and recently entered a marathon for October. I'm also in to the x box 360

Hopefully this provides enough of an intro for now,

Age

Hi and welcome to TM

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

HI people

thanks for the welcome. I have limited internet access (i.e. only in work at the moment)

Had my first visit to Blackpool at the weekend and managed to check out a shop or too.

I'm sure i'll learn loads here, out of interest. Any one seen Scott Pensrose? What type of lecture will he give?

Out of control is great, I was watching a very similar one with Aldo Columbini yesterday with Leprechauns (sp?)

well, I went to see Scott Penrose last night and really enjoyed the lecture.

an excelent magician (I guess winning Magic Circle Magician of the year 2000-2003 confirmed this :) ) Had some great effects and good variety as well.

I particually liked the trick where he produced a gold fish. He even explained how this could be in close up

as well as a load of other tricks he also did a nice version of gypsy thread but his most important message was about making magic magical! a great message for us all e.g. such as use flash products etc.
