yeah.... bruises on the shins is pretty standard fare without proper equipment. To fully appreciate the sport it must be played on skates with full equipment (preferably on ice but there are some roller-hockey [on in-line skates] informal leagues around).

The problem with hockey is that other than in the winter in communities with well-maintained municipal parks, you can't just "go to the park and play". You have to find an arena with a league that has an open spot and pay a considerable sum to play, and invest in all your equipment... the whole thing gts quite expensive. It's not like football where you can gather a bunch of friends and go to the nearest field and have a game, unless you play street hockey, which is basically played on any pavement with no skates and no equipment other than for the goalies (hopefully consisting of much more than just newspapers!!! :D )

Yeah, a UK forum - talkmagic.co.UK - so how about we refer to football in the way its meant in English and refer to your U.S. football as American Football!

Um, that's what I was saying. I'm confused, are you insulting American football? Are you saying that the U.S. should call soccer football? I don't understand! :?

I just meant this is an English forum and football should be referred to in English as opposed to the American soccer!

Ah you're thinking of Ice Hockey, I meant the horrible game they used to make us play at school on a cold, muddy field wearing those horrible gym skirts.

EEK! how brutal! Is that field hockey?? I don't think we Canadians recognize that as a sport! (Although I think we may have some kind of an Olympic team that no one seems to know about).

Ive played Basketball since i was 4.....always liked the Chicago Bulls because Michael Jordan was my role model, but have started to support the Timberwolves since i saw them play for some reason. Might be seeing them again in October when they come over for a UK tour.

Also like to watch Ice Hockey, American Football and Rugby, but dont really have favourite teams.

I was born with Multiple Personality Disorder. Luckily, they are all me, they just dont always get along...

I guess you would call it field hockey. It's the only version we really play over here
