This thread deserves a good lock, methinks.

Waay too much digression and (unnecessary) conflict.

Great, we invented Jazz. As for my use of sneakers, if you've ever been to America, which I seriously doubt you have, you would have noticed that the majority of people wear sneakers. Also, to group me as a morbid teenager who thinks nothing of death I believe you are forcing me into a stereotype that I am not willing to show.

Sir, I believe you should learn to become tolerant of people who are not exactly like you.

That's the great Benny Hill you are referring to. Some proper comedy we generously gave you only for you to return the favour with insipid tosh.

As for parading yourself like a freak, you're doing a mighty fine job of doing that here and to make such idiotic statements as you have and then lay claim to having some kind of social inadequacy to excuse them is just pathetic.
I say what I do because, by jove, I'm an Englishman!

The problem with you is that you are very, very worrying. If you think I should be tolerant of people who want to fake suicides on the net and think it's clever then that'll never happen. Whether you have a condition or whatever I don't know, but I do know that you just don't have a clue about anything.

Jazz? I wouldnt go round shouting that out. "Jazz is what you get when you push a blues band down a long flight of stairs"

Sneakers why do you wear them do you wear a bikini down the shop?

Anyway sleightycrazy says we have gone of topic.

Get back on track people; far too much personal abuse.

In fact, I can't really see a future in the original topic, so can we let this one fade away please.

In response to your accusation that I am copying Benny Hill, I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. If you doubt that I am autistic, visit my web page via my email. In my "About Me" section is information about my "inadequacy" as you put it.

Sorry, let me clarify my point. The discussion was about English inventions. I suppose it would be safe to say that Fleming was not English, ergo penicillin is not an English discovery.

Point of order: modern English is a product of the printing the Bible in English. The language used set the standard for the way this particular non-inflected indo-european language was written and, as literacy grew, how she's spoken.

Point of order: many music historians trace the evolution of punk back to "protopunks" Jonathan Richmond and the Modern Lovers and a return to the "3-chord" form that had emerged half a decade earlier. Check out the likes of Roadrunner.

The Sex Pistols, the pioneers (and for me the best exponents) of British punk, used to cover Iggy and the Stooges and The New York Dolls, both of whom were already well established by the early 70's.

The heart of "punk" as a US phenomenon was New York and the general sound of the bands booked to play CBGB's. So, for that particular sound (Kevin Hell and the Voidoids, The Tubes, Television, even Devo, early Talking Heads and Blondie), we need to look to the booker for CBGBs.

Personally, on the whole, I found US punk too "nice" and competent. I wanted The Pistols, Penetration, Pauline Murry and the Invisible Girls, Buzzcocks, The Damned, early Cure ("10:15 Saturday Night" or "Killing An Arab", anyone?). Tartan bondage kecks, biking jackets covered in studs, Carlsberg Export, too much whizz and superglued hair. Marvellous.

For early Cure punk, I would have used "Heroin Face" as an example. If you can find it (the recording is from a live show) you'll see what I mean.

Digressing...

No offense meant here, Lord Freddie - but some of your fellow countrymen have made a few pennies off of certain names - namely Jack the Ripper and Myra Hindley.

HOWEVER - I will not argue that Hollywood glamorizes violence. Just making a minor point.

To be quite honest, I'm sickened that all of you have lost sight of what this topic was about. Monker - this discussion wasn't about English/American inventions. It's about 32 dead kids, murdered at the hands of a lunatic.

And Lord Freddie - thank you for Mr. Bean.

I for one move that this thread be locked and tossed into the bin (is that the proper way to say it, my lovely English chaps? :D ). The discussion is too far off course to be properly righted.

Monker - stop googling and posting everything you see in order to defend against every single post. I admire your pride - but, as Freddie pointed out - it's difficult for you to take a moral stance given your proposed magic video topic.

In the hopes of quelling the tremors of a full-on war, I have this peace offering...

You gave us Derren Brown, Hugh Laurie, Eddie Izzard, and the fantastic staff and products at Alakazam magic....

We gave you, Ellusionist.com, David Bla..... hmmm....

Can't we just drop all this nonsense and get back to the magic?
