It's a US movie. I'd certainly hope it's sold here.

I got my hands on a copy today--awesome movie. There's some old man with some dark-rimmed glasses called "The Professor" who works at the Magic Castle... I wonder who he could be?!?!

Interestingly, the main character's name is Vernon.

Great movie, plot twists abound. If you can get it, enjoy!

Ciao,
Rob

Actually, Rob - if you pay close attention - many of the characters are named after famous magicians... not to mention the occasional magician cameos throughout...

Stuart Townsend - Vernon
Gabriel Byrne - Charlie Miller
Jamie Foxx - Larry Jennings
Bo Hopkins - Scarne
Patrick Bachau - Malini
Roger Smith - Marlo
Mark Junior - Leipzig

R Paul Wilson and Jason England (performing the 21 card trick at the magic castle as a nice subtle joke).

There may be more, but that's all I remember off the top of my head. It's a great inside "joke" for magicians to enjoy, beyond the movie itself. The movie alone is worth watching, the "Extras" just ice the cake.

That is pretty funny. I watched it twice last night and didn't even catch it!

At one point I thought about compiling a list of the in-jokes. It's a while since I last watched it, but off the top of my head:

Wilson's character is called Mr Andrews
The card game is in room 808
They ask for Mr Hemmingway
'I'm a dice man'
'Malini is not a patient man'

The last two made me smile...

Take care, Ian

there's also a bit in the bar when Charlie is putting a cigarette in his mouth, he puts it in the wrong way then turn it round and it's still the wrong way. totally didn't see that the first couple of times i watch the film, and i imagine it's wasted on 99% of the people watching it. but when i noticed it i found it highly ammusing

Re Miller's Cigarette - I wasn't sure about this bit, so I just watched the DVD and I have to say you are mistaken - he does start the wrong way round, but then corrects it.

In the commentary Damian says it was unplanned, but he left it in anyway.

Take care, Ian
