The Bullsh*t Detectives

Postby Tomo » Apr 26th, '07, 11:00

BBC3 9pm and 12.30am:

"Alasdair Jeffrey reveals 21st century hype, exposes it, confronts those responsible and shows them up for what they really are. He's on the trail of ghost hunters, casts a critical eye over feng shui, and looks at the recent claim that hypnotherapy can give you bigger breasts."

Sounds like a hoot!

It sounds very along the same lines of the Penn and Teller Bullsh*t programmes.

describes it as 'inspired' by P&T's show. I don't think it's got quite the same sense of humour as theirs however. Comes across rather more like a Watchdog-like consumer affairs program.

a bloke went to his live show, akorah went into some spiel about a mr. price, and this guy just put his hand up and agreed with everything...

derek even said to the"spirit" - is this the man i should pass the message onto? yes? it is....and then continued...

Tee hee. THe show last night was precious. This "Goldie" character even admitted she was cheating! I loved the old bloke who was clearly just cold reading - badly. I mean, I know there have been arguments about Ian Rowland's book "spoiling" the party, but these people don't seem to be aware of it...

Never seen them in the same room together, that's for sure.

After the show had finished, I flicked about and found this smug-looking "Star Psychic" Sally Morgan character on one of the ITV digital channels. She was reading... Uri Geller! He, in turn, was simply agreeing very enthusiastically with absolutely everything she said. Odd,that... vested interest, anyone?

i told him everything...everything completely wrong...made absolutely everything up...but now, he says he "cant watch derren anymore" cos i've spoilt it for him...brilliant...

i very nearly told him they built a marakesh set near southend....

It's sad though that no matter how many times these people exposed it won't make any difference. People can be divided into two categories on this:
People who know it's a scam and won't change their minds, and
People who know it's for real and won't change their minds.

Thing is all of the parasites are in the first category.

Same goes for the bit he did on crystals. Entertaining, but...

What you call heroism is just an expression of this fact; there is never a scarcity of idiots

Bump!

"Alasdair Jeffrey reveals 21st century hype, exposes it, confronts those responsible and shows them up for what they really are. He's on the trail of tarot readers, casts a critical eye over celebrity exercise videos, and looks at the people who claim to be able to read the minds of pets."

Sounds like fun, but watch out all you tarot readers out there in TV land!

Well, that was hilarious. The tarot readers were rubbish at it, so the guy wrote out some platitudes as crib sheets, set up shop in a mall and just went for it. The young woman who refused to believe he was fake was priceless! Ah, the Forer effect!

It'll be on again several times this week, so catch it if you can.
