Penguin Magic sale: Free copy of RRTCM

Postby RobLaughter » Apr 29th, '07, 03:12

Penguin Magic is offerring a free copy of the four-disc Royal Road to Card Magic DVD set with orders over $100. If you're looking to make a purchase (and don't mind having it shipped overseas if you're in the UK), it may or may not be a good deal for you.

Just thought I'd make it known, though, in case y'all were interested.

Never bought from Penguin before, but looking at their site, nearly ALL of the books listed have 'out of stock' underneath it!
Grrr!

I have purchased some magical material from web sites based in the States recently and I though I'd give you my experience on shipping.

The longest I had to wait from the time it was shipped to the time it was delivered was 15 calendar days. Usually takes around 6-10 days.

The 4 disk version (Magic Makers) is poor in comparrison to the 5 disk version and maybe this is why it's being given away? After all, it hasn't been around for long in comparrison to other disks.

The best shipping that I've had from the States is when buying from Hank Lee's Magic Factory. Took about 4 days from memory and this in itself seemed to be a piece of misdirection as I wasn't expecting the parcel so soon and was actually wondering what could be inside as I didn't remember ordering anything else

Personally, I think that Penguin has gone down hill a lot in recent times and again, their 'in stock' status mentionned by Shaneking is perhaps an indication of this.

Although worth a mention, I don't think that this deal is particularly a bargin as I'd struggle to buy $100 of Penguin material that I'd get good use and value for money from.

Perhaps it's a classic case of CUPS

They're even out of stock of the Royal Road book!
It appears they ordered too many of the 4 disc set then....

Oh trust me it was true alright - I think they meant to say unavailable or something like that but several downloads were shown as 'Out of Stock' .

One thing that does indeed frustrate me about Penguin is that, while they have a huge catalog, most things are often out of stock. I ordered a shell through them once (thinking I couldn't purchase it if it were out of stock, like the site claims) and wound up waiting two months for the silly little thing. Turns out half my order was shipped (saying the shell would arrive later) and they marked the entire order as shipped. They got it straightened out in the long run, though, so everything was A-okay.

I don't like browsing there website. If I know what trick I want to get then great. But looking for effects is really annoying. Say if you want to look at card tricks you have to first pretty much go through all of Penguins DVD's then all of the instant downloads. I just give up!
