Secret Coin Addition

Postby Farlsborough » Apr 29th, '07, 21:30

Eh up! There's an effect I'd really like to do which involves the secret addition of a few coins to a counted number. When teaching the effect the performer uses a gimmicked coin tray, but a) I can't afford *any* magic at the moment and b) I'm a student - why the h*ll would I have a coin tray?!

So, does anyone know of a good way to secretly add coins that seems very fair - I could just do a bit of finger palming but I want it to be as hands off and fair as possible.

how many extra coins do you need to add.

you could sleave a few then add them as you pick up the counted coins, do you have any shells there a great way to add coins, your not giving us much to work with are you.

Tsk, always with the specifics...!

How's this for you - I want to add 3 coins as I tip them back from either my hands or some kind of container into the specs hands, having just had them count them into said hand or container.

Does that help?!

ok three ways for you.

sleave them.
add them to your hand as you adjust your watch.
get a plactic cup and glue a disc of card 3/4 the way around the botom inside of the cup, put the three coins under the disc.
have spec count coins into empty plastic cup, one of thoughs hagandas icecream cups are ideal for this, then tip the coins out into your hand giving the cup a little squeese to open the inside flap.
bam cheepo coin tray, flap can either be mounted on the vertical wall or base of the cup depending on your audience and your bottle.

Cheers MagicDiscoMan! That last idea is a real good'un... we students may not have many coin trays around, but we sure do have a lot of empty ice cream pots...!

think about the same principle for cups and sponges or should i say chop cup and sponges, consider a paper clip or hair grip with the sponge.

There is a great cup to cup routine with '7' coins using this method with polystyrene coffee cups.

A cardboard disc stuck to the underside of a plate or saucer with a gap to allow secreted coins to drop out is just about the cheapest way I know of adding coins and the plate/saucer is never suspected as it's so 'ordinary'.

if you've got a pk ring (if so, im sure you'll know the correct latin for that disease) - why not hold out 3 2pence pieces, then as you pass the coins from one hand to the other, use your thumb to puss off the 3 hidden coins?

A simpler more impromptu version might be to have three coins finger palmed in your right hand as the spec counts coins into your left. You then dump the left hand coins into your right hand, adding the three, and place in the specs hand.
