I have the spider pen and these are my views:
Pro's:
- Pretty much anyone can use it, from beginner to pro. ITR's need more getting used to.
-Much more forgiving than using an ITR, purely because if you make a big mistake you just purchase a new reel - for about a fiver (from USA) and you're all set again. If you make a big mistake with an ITR, can't find the end e.t.c you have to get a replacment. THis is a costly and time consuming experience, unlike the spider pen.
-You can move very far away from the object.
-You can do everything with it that an ITR can and more.
-The thread is both very thin and quite strong.
Con's:
- The battery runs out pretty quickly, however they can be purchased relativley cheaply. (You don't have to buy the Yigal Mesika Spider Pen Batteries)
- If you break the thread it is sometimes very hard to find the end as the whole thing gets tangled. The thread loses the wax and the motor is still running, mixes the end of the thread with all the reel, you get the idea.
-If you love the lid, your stuck. THis protects the wax from being spun around the motor, losing the wax. I've lost this the hard way and now have to keep hold of the wax. I've tried makeshift replacments but with no avail.
I have mixed view on it, but I still find myself using it all the time! I think someone has recently reviewed the Kevlar Pen but I'm not definete.
Really what you need to compare is the the spider pen and an ITR cos the Kevlar pen is just a ITR in pen casing, unlike the spider pen which replaces the reel with a motor.
