Review: In the Review thread about ‘On The Case', Boywonder casually mentioned that
And he’s sooooo right!Steve does another amazing trick called T.R.A.N.S.P.O.R.T which would be great if you bought it. I would always recommend Steves tricks.
Steve sells TRANSPORT direct and this one is based on seeing a Canadian Magician (I suppose he could be called a Canadician?), Greg Frewin, using a rope in a dove act – OK, no need to call out the RSPCA, it was all harmless – and a lecture from Ronaldo. This is suitable for children’s shows as well as for the supposedly more mature audiences so no limits on use.
Two pieces of that nice soft Magician’s white rope are displayed and tied together. A piece of coloured rope (mine is blue but pink is available if you prefer, honky tonk) is then displayed. One end of each piece of rope is placed under each foot and the opposite ends held in one hand so the effect is pretty much like a triangle, white rope with knot in the middle one side, coloured rope the other. You will have already concluded that this ain’t table magic unless you can stand on the table.
Impossibly, the knot which you have just cleanly and visibly tied is now slid up the white rope and across to the coloured one, the white rope (note the use of the singular now!) is discarded and, just to completely boggle the mind, the white knot in the coloured rope is undone and it is shown that there are now two pieces of coloured rope and each has a white section at the end.
Overall: Once I’d tried this a few times, it became very straightforward. That’s not to say it’s a difficult effect but it seems to take a bit longer for things to sink into the grey matter these days! Once the set up and preparation are sorted, the rest is pure presentation. It’s a fantastic stand-alone effect and, most refreshingly, doesn’t involve playing cards. I would imagine that this would make a great follow on or precursor to other rope effects where you can seemingly use the same pieces of rope. There are good written instructions provided and nine full colour photos to expalin the intricate details.
Value for money: As I never miss the opportunity to rework old jokes and puns, if this were no good I wouldn’t hesitate to refer to 'money for old (or new) rope'. However, this one I rate very highly indeed and, for £15.00, is well worth it - certainly for that extra something which isn't where you're just sitting to perform but on your feet and giving it the full presentation. It would be great for street work as well. There are two alternative workings and one requires the use of proper scissors and the purchase of more rope each time, the other doesn’t. Guess which one I, the tightfisted one, do?
Rating: 9.9/10 - I always like to leave something still to be reached!
