Mentalism shopping spree: Wal*Mart

Postby RobLaughter » May 7th, '07, 08:52

Took a trip to the local Wal*Mart today for some supplies and some inspiration and realized just how awesome the craft and office supplies departments are. I got strange glances from the cashier from the odd assortment of things I carried to her register...

Some of the things I picked up included a bunch of memo pads in various shapes and sizes to experiment with im*******n pads. I also found some great 9-inch (22.5 cm) solid brass rings that I used to make a nifty replacement to my old linking rings set with a little persistance with a pair of wire cutters. And at 25 cents a piece (on clearance), a 75 cent linking rings set is amazing! Does anyone have a clue what I can do with these things for mentalism, though? I bought 20 of them, along with ten 3-inch (7.5 cm) brass rings, so I'm trying to get creative with these buggers.

Lastly does anyone from the US know where I can find pay envelopes (a.k.a. coin envelopes or money envelopes) in moderate quantities? I can order a box of 500 from the internet, but I'm not ready to drop $15 on some silly little envelopes.

Ciao,
Rob

You might try some dedicated paper stores, if you can find them. Most of them around here (NY) carry pay envelopes in all sizes, so it may be the same kind of thing for you. If you ask, they will usually make a deal with you, so you don't have to buy a box of 500.

I wish I knew that before buying 500 from Staples for an effect from The Artful Mentalism of Bob Cassidy (who I got to meet 2 weeks ago :D) when all I needed was 10 which includes all the replacement envelopes I'd need for a year...Can't they just give you 3...It's not like somebody who's buying 500 is going to be crying and stressing over not having 3 envelopes.

What else was over at Walmart? I think I'll go and check it out this weekend, but what isles (hope I spelt that right) should I be looking in besides the one mentioned?
