Can any techies help?? Hijacking spyware

Postby I.D » May 7th, '07, 18:00

Basically I must have some hijacking software on my pc.

When I google anything, I get re-directed to some STUPID sites and advertising places. I cant get to any site I want through google and I google a lot.

What can I do to kill off this kindof software. I dont want to download these prpgrams that are adware/hijacking spyware in themselves!!

I would appreciate any help

Thanks

Ouch. I cant get anywhere without google either. Is it pop-ups and then a blank page or is it the same page just re-directed?

Format your C:\ Drive ;)...Just kidding...If you have an XP, run a system restore to the last time your computer worked properly, last time I had a hijakcer on my computer, that seemed to work. I'm guessing because the software did have to install itself and the system restore uninstalled it. After the system restore, run Spybot Search and Destroy (and if you don't have it, get it, as it is very good), clean everything out that it finds, and then run your Antivirus.

Hope that helps,

Hmm sorry I havn't got a clue! Obviously a virus, does anyone else use your computer? Maybe ask them if they have downloaded anything recently so you can have a better idea of what it may be

Ok firstly its called adware, and you can find many programs on the internet which will remove it. Some are free and some are expensive.

Panda Platinum is a great all round computer security software which cost about £20 for a years registration off E-Bay

or

Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition 1.06 which is free and apprently very good.

I'm personally using Panda Platinum which i find to be very good, but if you just need to get rid of the adware use the latter application.

Best of luck.

I got spybot search and destroy, it made my computer work faster, and destroyed loads but not this.

Im always wary of running system restore as I think Id lose everything I have on my pc, but I might give it a go

Hmm, in future try ignoring emails that offer to 'enralge your pens' as they simply don't work, plus the links they offer have an astounding ability to fill your computer with nastyware in seconds.

I think you will find that is not my style.

I did realise over the weekend that my antivirus software expired in Feb so my computer has not been scanned since then, somehow I managed to change the settings to manual update from automatic.

most of the advertising sh*t is for random stuff like computers and all tech nonsense, but there's the odd dodgy referral sites that creep in.

I only use the internet for magic sites, emails and for play.com. Porn, as good as it was in my teens, is not my thing nowadays.

Your welcome to all my old videos though if thats your kinda thing

ID, this is taken right from the system restore app itself:

"System Restore restores your computer to an earlier time (called a restore point) without causing you to loose recent work, such as saved documents, e-mail, history or favorites lists.

Any changes that System Restore makes to your computer are completely reversible."

So, no worries; restore your computer, pray that it works, and you won't loose a thing. If you're unhappy with the restore, you can undo it :D.

Hope that helps,

System restore is brilliant and has got me out of some very sticky situations. For example deleted software AND viruses. The viruses that I had have all been removed through system restore as soon as I noticed them, but they were mainly small time viruses and what not. Im not sure it will delete what you have, but its certainly worth a shot

Try ctrl + alt + delete
Then list all the processes, you can stop them through there.
They are easily recognisable, and if unsure google with tell you.

Or you can uninstall programes that dont like to be deleted with a program called c*** (not the best) cleaner

Also random idea is a program called registry mechanic.
