95% of the tricks in my professional kit are little or no-brainers and i still get payed, the fee paying audience don't care as long as there entertained.

If you're doing something on stage, the likelihood of someone wanting to examine a deck or any props is slim, so you could use gimmicks.

There are obviously, from what you're saying, some effects that you are very confident with peform well, hence you being asked, so if you stuck to those for the time being and maybe did a smaller slot until your confidence in front of a larger audience has grown and then do a bit more.

If all else fails, in a club situation, backing music, dimmed lights and a couple of D-lite's could easily be added to your repotoire.

balloon swallowing works well on stage and in a comedy setting. Very visual at quite some distance. lots of opportunity for gags with it too.

Balloon swallowing is brilliant, it's visual and it's fun. Kids love it, adults love it, it's one of those things that works for everyone.

yeah i agree although you might want to put a bit of a disclaimer before it plus you'll have to figure out a way to make it relevant to the rest of your act.

also if your anything like me you might find it a real pain learning it. for some reason it took me ages to figure out. I'm talking nearly a year lol (i can be a bit slow at times)

:D

i would say (as some others have) that the guy obviously has faith in your work, doing what you're doing NOW...

so maybe its the feelings you have of learnning something else that you might not be ask comfy with right now thats giving you the fear?

i wish you luck in whatever you choose though...if cards is your thing, maybe look into the jumbo card side of things and see what you can adapt...

but if it's a walk-around act...then maybe see if you can give it a weeks trial...im sure you'll learn alot if you did it...experience can never be sniffed at...and once the initial nerves settle, maybe you'll absolutely love it?

good luck though :)

Bannon's Power of Poker (from Dear Mr. Fantasy) is an excellent challenge effect which can be done with jumbo cards and involves a member of the audience. I've not worked it on stage, but close-up it really is a killer.

There's also Jim Steinmeyer's Soft Shoe Monte which I'm not familiar with myself but I've heard it's a goodun and plays well.

Hi there,

What about taking a look at the "Vanishing Bandana" comedy trick? That might be a good one to "tie-in" with the comedy act.
