Can you believe it???? I had a nice idea to buy Dave some new tyres for his bike for a present as he was saying last night that the ones he's got on there are wearing out.

So I had a look and wrote down the type, just looked on Google and they cost £45 EACH. Now just to be clear, these are racing bike tyres, not motor bike or even big mountain bike tyres but silly little skinny race bike tyres.

I can get a pair of tyres for my car for the price of one of those. And he complains at the amount I spend on a new pair of shoes

well then..just think of them as two pairs of shoes for your ever-lovin' boyfriend!

and...as its been a while, surely a new pinny and rolling-pin for you would be much cheaper?

It's not like they last forever, either. I mean, aren't they technically disposable items?

And you need three of them!!! That makes 135€ How many bike decks can you get for that price? Even throw in some new cups and stuff.

I think it depends on how many peoplel you bop over the head with them.

If you can get two car tires for the same price as one, maybe you should buy the car tires, put them on his bike, and tell him you "tricked out" his ride.

I bet they're tubeless... a friend of mine is currently lamenting buying such a nice racing bike for the same reason.

Sorry to interrupt your thread, Lady of Mystery, but this is something I wanted to post in the "English Language" thread. I was wondering what the origins of the spelling of the word "tyre" is from, and when it became "tire" everywhere else in the world. In Canada we are very much followers of the true English (and currently British) spelling of things, and have not followed the American spelling for words...... EXCEPT "tires". (In other words, we spell "colour", "labour", "neighbour", etc and "through" the way they were meant to be spelled - just to name a few)

Anyways... just wondering. Carry on...

PS. If it's any consolation, I spent $350 EACH for a set of 4 "tires" for my car a few years ago....

if he's got a really good bike that he's built up being concious of the weight and quality of components then he really will need some decent tyres. there's no point spending hundreds on a dura ace group set to save weight and then buying some cheap tyres that weigh 2 pound each. as farnsborough said the tubeless or 'tubs' are more expensive as are the folding ones.
if he's just got a cheap runaround for commuting or whatever go somewhere like decathlon and get their own budget tyres.

The tyre I'm looking for is called Veloflex Criterium. Ah well he puts up with me so I guess he's worth it
