I think my goals change the more I do it.

When I first started I was very much in the Mandrake camp (not saying that Mandrakes camp, just... oh never mind) and wanted to perform only to friends and family. Truth be known even performing to friends and family was quite intimidiating.

The more I learn though the more I enjoy performing in the real world to "real" people. I'm not saying that F and F's arent real, just they don't always react in the same way, and it is watching peoples reactions that is the best thing. I get such a kick over entertaining people. Making them laugh, making them astounded.

I do a fair amount of close up work now - in a paid environment and I truely love it. I still panick a little over the stand up gigs, in that I get extremely nervous before going on stage, but I at least now know that the more I do it the more comfortable I will get with it, so it isn't as daunting as it once was.

Perhaps I am not a natural performer. People like Lady of Mystery seemed to know what they wanted from magic from the start and where dreaming of regular stage shows (when I was dreading a single one), but the more I do it - the more fun it gets for me (and hopefully the people I do it to.

performing on a big stage would require me to wear a nappy...

im fine round a table with a dozen or so people...any more than that, and i get too jittery...i much prefer the "ideas" side, i always road test things on the spur of the moment, i kinda like that buzz...

i seem to work best bouncing ideas off other people too - i enjoy coming up with a premise then wondering what would be the reaction if x happened here, then y did that and so on...i kinda like chaos too, lots of wierd things going off one after the other...

and i really love the whole victoriana feeling of the cross-over, of both magic and science...the way that whole thing blurred...then a splash of the modern day and its a potent pot to stir your ideas into...

i know my limits, and hopefully play to my strengths...i very much doubt if i ever will get to consult on a tv or stage show...

but it will be a whole lot of fun seeing where it all takes me...i think its always worth running with something while you can...

I love the idea of the stage. Being able to put together a set, music, lighting, it'd be brilliant. And to be honest I think it'd be much less nerve racking than close up work.

My ideal situation would be to do a stage performance and then mingle with the audience doing some close up work afterwards.

if i had the options i'd like to run a magic theater similar to the old magic lantern shows, giving new magic talent a voice so to speek like open mike nights do for comedy.

I'd like to quietly build up the regular gigs to the point where I got to perform maybe once a week to real people, and have enough interest in me to pick and choose the gigs and charge handsomely.

Sounds a bit utopian but I know a couple of people who work like this and they get a lot of enjoyment from it, it's taken them 5-10 years to get to that point but I'm in no hurry. One thing I'm certain of is that I don't want magic to be my only source of income, for the reason Mark Lewis mentioned above. Oh well, shouldn't be too hard not to become a professional magician!

with me i'd want to be a creator/developer of new effects, while doing it as a hobby. wouldnt want it as a proper job...though if i got a regular close up spot...who knows?

but at the moment i would be happy (If i could) with being a "magician's magician"...like magicians would have heard if me, but not the general public. kinda like a "David Blaine vs Wayne Houchin"...we know wayne houchin...the general public dont really

Hmm..basically my goal in magic is to be able to make a living doing it.

I don't need my name up in lights in Vegas (although it would never hurt ), but to just make a living doing it...Not having to have a "day job" as every adults who sees me doing magic (family that is), tells me to not forget about...But the thing is, I want magic to be my dayjob, and do what I love and being able to survive doing it.

Maybe it is a dream that I will never aspire to, but I sure as hell hope that I do!

I'd love to just stay an SH. Professional magic, while a noble profession, does not appeal to me. I'm glad just wowing friends and family. I'd be okay with doing a small performance for a few people for money (maybe a birthday party for a family friend) but that would be how far I would like to go.
