Vanishing Coin

Postby Melisa » May 10th, '07, 11:11

Hello again,

Guys I need another advise on getting DVD resources.

Which DVD is good/full with coin vanishing tricks?

I would like to learn vanishing coin without using special coin or handkerchief.

I'm interested in slight of hand and miss leading techniques if there are any. :)

For example: I have seen David Copperfield putting a coin on one palm and just cover the coin with the other palm and without any fancy movement the coin just disappear when he opens his palms

Please any suggestion is very appreciated.

Thanks
melisa

Bobo Coin magic book is exactly what you are looking for. There is a bobo coin magic dvd too but cannot testify to how good it is.
Sankeys revolutionary coin magic has some great routines on it but to be honest you should really spend the fiver on getting bobo book first

Does it have to be a DVD? How about Bobo's book of Coin magic? There's a DVD version of it but the book itself is very low cost and contains hundreds of sleights, ideas, routines - excellent value for money.

Thanks so much for the quick reply!

Where do you guys normally get the book from?

The reason I prefer DVD or multimedia format is because I can see the tricks are being performed.

Thank you again!

Bobo's is available from bricks and mortar bookshops all over the planet and should be available by ordering on line. You'd need to Google around a bit and find the best deal locally to you. It's not a modern book (1952) and the illustrations are just line sketches but the groundwork of all coin effects is in there somewhere.

Im going to admit something here..

As intelligent as I am, and as much as I love books, and I love Bobos modern book of coin magic.. this was probably the hardest book to comprehend ( in parts ) behind Expert Card Technique.

Therefore, while you WILL do well to get Bobos modern coin magic, if you like the visual aid aspect, may I suggest that as well as Bobo, you get David Roths expert coin magic made easy volume 1.

This will help you with the basic sleights and deal with the most common palms, steals, transfers and switches.

And it is all done at a nice slow pace :)

Even though the illustrations in the Bobo book are just line sketches, they are in fact well done and (in my opinion) show exactly how do perform the effects. But, as ID said, it's no walk in the park.

By the way, find the Opie study guide (there's a thread about the book that contains the link to this study guide) which is an INVALUABLE tool to help you focus on what's more important.

...and the book was reprinted in 1982 but it was written in the '50's. You'll realize that when you see the illustrations of the "conjurer" and "spectator".

Paul Daniels wrote:My advice, ALWAYS, is not easy but I do believe it to be the best. Read books. Read as many books as you can. Whilst you are reading the books keep your own notebooks with full descriptions of what you think is good, good ideas, and even what you think up for yourself whilst you are reading.

I know that DVDs are out there, I have even made a few myself, but when I do them I try to keep 'me' OUT of the tricks. There is a reason for this.

If you read a book (I know it is harder that watching DVDs) YOU will see YOU doing the magic. YOUR imagination will DREAM and add to the vision of YOU performing. If you go the easy route and ONLY watch DVDs you will copy the performance on the screen. Why be a clone?

Example: when we were making the TV series, I found some tricks in a book. I thought they were great and I put three of them into the shows. A couple of years later I watched the originator perform them on a tape and HE was dire. I would never have performed those great tricks if, in my mind's eye, I hadn't seen ME doing them!
