Dumping Coins!

Postby ultimatecreate » May 10th, '07, 00:09

I want to dump a coin after the imprompt 'coin in bottle' routine. What is the best way? Ive heard sleeving is good? Or perhaps leaving it, displaying the bottle (whilst pocketing it) and revealing an empty hand, or perhaps french drop to begin with.

Let me know your thoughts...

cheers,

Alex

I would suggest that you palm it until you have a time when the spectators are otherwise occuppied and you can put it in your pocket.

Yeah, i would also so classic or finger palm it until you have the spectators attention elsewhere. If all else fails you could make up an excuse to go in a pocket or do the ever trusty sleeve. Spoilt for choice really but it all depends on the situation.

im no coin-worker, but i would say that after the coin goes into the bottle, take it with the left hand and display it, leaning forwards just slightly as you do so and twisting your body a tiny bit to the right (like you would leaning across a table to pick up a glass)...thus sheilding your other arm to do what's needed as you go your pocket...

sleeving would be nice though, the charles cloutier dvd is very good, lots of great tips on there and some good practise effects too...sleeving made easy it's called...

hi, i do 2 CIBs, in 1 the coin stays in the sealed bottle and there has never been a problem pocketing when the bottle is handed out. in the other is just finger palmed untill the f*****g one is removed and the worlds simplest switch takes place. the trick with the second one is not to leave the coin in the bottle long enough for specs to start thinking.
with CIBs the specs attention is so drawn to the coin in the bottle you can easily ditch. maybe you could reach into your pocket for a pen or something to tap the bottle with to prove how solid it is, just a thought.

When you hand the bottle out for examination all eyes will be on that, so it's easy to ditch it into your pocket. Rattling the bottle a bit as you set it down on the table helps as well

If you're wearing a shirt or jacket and using new british copper coins, tape an aardvark on the inside of the hem at the side. It's an incredibly natural movement just to curl your fingers under the bottom of your jacket - this is one of my favourite ditches (I can't bring myself to say "dumps" - snicker snicker  )

Alex,

Cut a piece of thick card like mounting board. You want a square about an inch and a half. On one side tape a small safety pin and on the other side stick a blob of bluetac. Use the safety pin to attach the gimmick on the inside of your jacket just above the hem.

The usage is the same as Farlsborough said. Drop your hand straight down to your side, curl your fingers under the hem, and its gone. You can use this with any coin.

Tenko.

Apropos of nothing, Poundland (in Wolverhampton, at least) is currently selling a pack containing five metres of double-sided sticky tape and 320 double-sided stick pads. For, as you'd imagine, £1.

Mrs.M is into greetings card making (all praise to Saint Dawn Bibby!) so will be interested to hear that - I'm sure there's a branch in Birmingham town centre somewhere.

I do a basic coin to bottle using a penny and a plastic bottle. I push the penny in through the bottom of the bottle and explain that I have to hit the bottle at just the right speed to rearrange the plastic molecules to let the coin through.

This means hitting the bottle quite hard which always ends up with the bottle shooting out of my hand. That never fails to take every spectators eye off me and on to the bottle. I then simply pocket. The other benefit of this to me is that it is a spectator who picks up the bottle immediately after the penetration and I can just leave them to fiddle with it as much as they like. I always leave the bottle behind afterwards, it is amazing how long people will spend examining it to find the trick!

Firstly - what coin works best? Ive been using the 500ml Pepsi bottles in the UK and only the 20p works. Any other suggestions for coins/bottles?

Also, i found hitting the top works really well ie passing it through the cap itself falling straight out of the bottom. That way if it falls too slowly when passing through you have an explanation, rather than it falling out of the top when your trying to pass it through the bottom.

Will it be giving too much away to ask what an aardvark is?

Probably. We use aardvark to conceal wording which would tip the gaff - a PM may help  !
