palming coin routine

Postby Melisa » May 12th, '07, 08:42

Hi all,

I'm tring to practise palming coin at the moment but it is very frustraiting as I don't know the proper way to practise this routine.

Any tips on practising this routine?
Would the shape of hand, coin's weight, coin's edge, size and etc.... would would be factors to consider when practising this routine?

Do I need to rub my palm with somekind of lotion or wax or... just to make the coin stick easier? :?

Any suggestions or tips on this routine so I can be sucessfull and comfortable in palming coin would be really appreciated.

Thank again.

There are two things you're gonna have to do: get a copy of Bobo's Modern Coin Magic, and practice. Lots. Sorry, there's no real quick fix here, if you'd been practicing for say six months and still had trouble with a certain palm someone could give you some tips. As it is you're obviously at a very early stage of your coin development and the only way to get better is to handle coins all the time.

I have been practicing the classic palm cince last October and its only been in the last month or so I have got my classic palm to a comfortable level.

Like Bronz said, there just is no quick fix, its going to take at the very least six months to comfortably execute the palm but it will take even more practice to master, its just one of those things you cant pick up quickly.

You NEED to get Bobos coin magic, and walk round all day every day for months, with coins in various palms

Thanks for the replies

I know that this is not going to be easy and it's gonna take a long time. But if we know what to lookout when practising this such as choosing the right size of coin, choose coin with a particular thickness (maybe?...), etc ... would probably help in the success of the excercise. Hope this make sense...

Please correct me if I'm wrong

I personally find it easier to palm British 10p or 2p coins, since they're about the right size and thickness, and the 10p coin has ridges. I'm not sure which australian coins are the right size, but any which are about 2-3cm in diameter might be best.

I also find it easier if I have hands clean of sweat/grease, etc

If you ever come across them, American half dollars are very easy to palm.

Might be worth trying a british two pound coin when you very first begin. Decent size

Just a matter of curiosity :) ,is there any believe that some hands are just not designed to palm coins? No matter how hard we try but it's just simply can't do the trick...

may be I'm one of them....

in short no.
the longer answer is that unless your hand dosn't have the required mussles due to accident or malformation then yes maybey otherwise you have the capacity but some will take a lot longer to get it than others.
most people give up far to quickly this sleight will take you months to get the feel for and the mussle memorry to set.

david roth has some excelent tuition tapes and some online searching will yield a video or two to help you along.

I agree with magicdiscoman. Unless your hands has been cruelly malformed, you will be able to achieve the art of coin palming. I'm also one of those people who had to work a little bit harder to palm coins, but I'm so glad that I stuck with it. Now I'm open to so many more tricks.

Judging by what's been said, I'm assuming you're all talking about the classic palm? The classic palm needs a lot of time and practice
You might want to start off using finger palms, downs palms, and clips, etc. in your routine. These will get you started off while you're getting your classic palm down to perfection.

And as you can see by the other posts, everyone has a different perfect coin to palm. So just find what's best for you. personally I find 2ps the easiest because of the solid ridge on the edge.

And bobo's is a must.

Melisa,

What do you want to achieve and why ??

After nigh on 20 years in magic I can steal a coin and palm one. I can't do it well enough to fool a magician but I can fool a lay person.

Confidence is the key to performing well to lay people. A hell of a lot of practice is the key to performing well to other magicians.

Its all down to what you want !!
